Left and right in America...

...the last 8 years has been a very sour disappointment for Republicans in general, and conservatives in particular, in terms of government policy and how it has impacted the general welfare and direction of the nation. We are without a doubt NOT better off than we were in 2000. Of course, those of you still in denial make yellow dog Democrats seem the height of rational thought.

Be that as it may, the roots of this bitter disappointment lay in the 'compassionate' conservative scam that those of us on the right actually bought into, as though conservatism is somehow NOT compassionate, the effects of it's tenets on the individual being the very definition of compassion; personal responsibility, self reliance and individual freedom.

Point being, without us, Bush doesn't win. With us, he won, twice, and betrayed us time after time after time in order to pursue his own new world order, leaving US national interest in the ditch(s). Whether this was intentional or simply the result of profound blinders and shortsightedness on his part due to over riding fears and worries about his vision of providing for the common defense, the point is it happened; it has been a GOP disaster, a national disaster and it has been failure to adhere to conservative principles
as the core problem.

Now, the left has won the day and they have their man who similarly promised them ideas and words that danced in their hearts and minds and won their support. What is noteworthy here is that, while Bush didn't go careening over a cliff until after 9/11, Obama isn't even in office and he is already betraying the left. No doubt his more ardent defenders will be like those on the right; it's the media's fault, he has to do this, he has to do that, it's the other party, it's the weather, however, facts is facts; He is already surrounded and dominated by Clintonites, people who actively helped fail delivering on the dreams of '92, the triangulators and pragmatists, the power brokers and hard core DC insiders. Lobbying groups and big money are also part of the Obama reality rather than his anti lobbyist and pro public campaign finance rhetoric.

So, will the Obama presidency end up leaving the left as used as the right has been these past two terms? Will the Democrat party be left in tatters due to betraying the ideas and principles of the left that have just won the day? Or will Obama, somehow, transcend all the turns away from the campaign he has already made?

It's pretty plain to see it happening now, the turning away from what got him here. I only wish the right was less concerned with simple power 8 years ago and more concerned with principle. We wouldn't be having this conversation if we had.

I put reward them, however... on some issues he will have no choice but to stay in the mushy middle. Once people inform him about the consequences of certain things.

Reminds me of a joke I heard:

Q: B. Obama and H. Clinton are both on a sinking ship.... who survives?

A: AMERICA

The vast majority of Democrats are center-left...not the raving lunatics on the fringe.

Keeping in mind that he's not President yet, and therefore hasn't had a chance to "do anything"...he's doing just fine, in my opinion.

His regular press conferences show that he's not waiting until January 20th to get things rolling. He's going to hit the ground running with a well thought out plan of action ready to go.

Americans in general are centrists...so any Obama shift to that position won't hurt him.

A shift to the left has been devastating the last 8 years in a lot of ways. Government expansion, spending, energy policy, medicare, lack of action on social security, immigration, the housing fiasco and the bail outs.
Devastating.

The shift to the left as Bush and the Republicans were steering the ship? That blame's stuck on those responsible for it.

Now we'll see what Obama (and "the Left") can make out of the hand he's been dealt.

And all this time I thought Congress had something to do with it, and the majority was Democrat. Dayum, where have I been.

I can't talk to liberals. Even if we both speak English, we don't speak the same language.

Apparently you were very far away during the first 6 years of the Bush administration.
