That the things still happen when they're illegal is inevitable. Kinda like sarcastically saying "it's a good thing murder is illegal, so no one will do it"

It's not totalitarian. It's common sense, reasonable restrictions - like "fire" in a crowded theater. When allowing something is bad for all, with no redeeming value whatsoever, I am basically for banning it.

If I yell 'fire' when there is none and someone gets hurt in the stampede, that is my fault. If someone smokes crack and ruins there life because I don't think I have the right to impose on them a restriction saying they can't, it is THEIR fault, not mine.

Obesity.
Bad TV.
Bad political speech.
Not enough exercise.
Bad music.
Bad attitude.

Where do you want to start? More importantly, where does it stop?

Your slippery slope argument is a valid one, and it concerns me. However, drugs have been illegal for a long time, and we're not moving in that direction, so........

However, someone ruins more than their own life with drugs. That's the difference, and the point I've been trying to get across. If this were incessant TV watching, I'd be all there with you. It's not, I'm not.

It should be tattooed in reverse on every Congressman's forehead.

Actually drugs have only been generally illegal since the repeal of prohibition. It was a money thing. People had switched from alcohol to drugs so they would not break the law. When prohibition was repealed, they were not switching back. The bootleggers that turned legal, Kennedy, et al, lobbied for laws against drugs so they could sell booze.

Good or bad or just a fact, people are going to get a buzz; alcohol, drugs, spinning like a top when you are a kid. All ways of getting a buzz.
