First, I think the title of this discussion is right on target! Sonsie usually cuts right to the chase & doesn't mince too many words & calls it like she sees it. (And I sees it the same way.)

Second, if the newspapers are sinking fast, they've got no one but themselves to blame. The ones who are sinking are becoming (or already are) Liberal rags & the readers know it. Readers aren't buying the darn papers - they're using the power of the pocketbook to make their choices.

And there are plenty of fact finders & fact checkers online. You're just choosing to discount them.

Totally agree, that's why the DemoRats keep trying to push the Fairness Doctrine because most conservatives radio and newspapers succeed and hard left liberal radio fails thus they have to push themselves onto conservative stations to hear or read their rhetoric!!!

This bullshyte still hasn't died. This is something that needs to be brought to the public's attention in a BIG way.

Obama open to newspaper bailout bill

The president said he is "happy to look at" bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.

"I haven't seen detailed proposals yet, but I'll be happy to look at them," Obama told the editors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Toledo Blade in an interview.

Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called "Newspaper Revitalization Act," that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin's Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down the possibility of government assistance for news organizations, which have been hit by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.
Nonprofits my ass. How many people think this would be applied blindly? I'm thinking conservative newspapers wouldn't be getting their tax free status with the same ease as say... the times and the post. Also can't you see Obama's band of crooks threatening this status every time they print something critical of his regime?

The worst days work MD ever did was when they elected that nutbag to the Senate.

Rush Limbaugh gets scoffed at by the libs when he refers to the "State-run media". Who's clueless now?

Wouldn't a newspaper that restructured still have to sell papers and make a profit to be viable? I don't see that relieving a tax burden will somehow get customers to buy the paper. It's cheaper to buy blank newsprint on the roll if you want to catch crab shells and other trash at a big dinner.

I agree with you on the title of this thread...Quite ugly. It is a double edged sword. Journalism use to be vital in keeping everyone check in this country. However, true journalism has been dead for quite sometime now. There isn't any reason for them not to have their papers online along with their fact checkers and fact finders in tow and given the technological age we are in, it shouldn't be hard to come up with comprehensive ways to come up with a real news source rather than the opinionators we see in print and television these days.

The newspapers these days are single corporate entities that should be figuring it out for themselves. I don't like the idea of government involvement in anyway...it wouldn't be any different from the corporate influence that guides them now.

Sunday Obamathon Turns Into Media Critique; Says Press is Perpetuating 'Rude' Behavior

They say you shouldn't bite the hand that feeds you. But the 44th President of the United States doesn't seem to be worried about that.

President Barack Obama, still with no fear of being overexposed, made the rounds on five Sunday morning talk shows on Sept. 20 to make another attempt at winning the hearts and minds over on his vague health care proposal.

According to Obama, alleging he wasn't doing any "media-bashing," mentioned the three major cable news networks by name, and said they were the ones enabling the "rude" behavior that some of their on-air voices have decried by giving it so much attention.
