Sebelius Is Second Obama Health Pick to Disclose Tax Errors

March 31 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama’s second choice as Health and Human Services secretary told senators she made errors in her 2005 through 2007 federal income tax returns and owed more money.

Kathleen Sebelius, the Democratic governor of Kansas nominated by Obama for the Cabinet post earlier this month, said in a letter today that she paid $7,040 in additional taxes and $878 in interest.

Sebelius, 60, is the second nominee for health secretary to admit personal tax errors. She said she discovered the mistakes after hiring an accountant to review the returns in preparation for Senate confirmation hearings.

The accountant found “unintentional errors, which we immediately corrected by filing amended returns” and paying the additional taxes and interest, she said in her letter to Senator Max Baucus, a Montana Democrat who chairs the Senate Finance Committee, and Senator Charles Grassley of Iowa, the panel’s top Republican.

Obama picked Sebelius for the health job after former Senator Tom Daschle, a Democrat from South Dakota, withdrew as the nominee after questions arose about errors on his federal taxes. Daschle, 61, paid about $140,000 in back taxes and interest, in part related to chauffeur services he accepted.

In her letter, Sebelius said she owed back taxes in part because three of 49 charitable donations she and her husband claimed lacked needed confirmation letters.

Another error occurred after the couple sold their home “for an amount less than the outstanding balance on our mortgage” in July 2006.

“We continued paying off the loan, including interest we mistakenly believed continued to be deductible mortgage interest,” and another loan, for home improvements, “was treated similarly,” she said.

Sebelius took questions today from senators on the Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions. The tax issue wasn’t broached.

She will face Baucus and Grassley in a hearing of the Finance Committee on April 2. The Finance panel has primary jurisdiction over her nomination.

Beth Martino, Sebelius’s press secretary, referred questions to the White House, where a spokesman did not elaborate on the letter.

That's the clincher. They are not criminals/tax dodgers. They just know something you don't. Most Americans have no statutory liability to pay a Federal Income tax on their earnings. You are just volunteering to pay as "good americans". Have you watched the video America:Freedom To Fascism?

Sad to say, it looks like the Republicans are afraid to oppose Hussein at most levels. Their weak backbone will keep them from regaining seats in 2010 and probably 2012 if they don't wise up.

There is so much going on that they could rally around and oppose Hussein on, but where the fudge are they!?!

That's like asking why doesn't the good cop arrest the bad cop.
The answer is simple. They are both on the same side and all the conservative/liberal rhetoric is nothing more than a "dog and pony show" to keep the masses asleep while we continue to march toward the destruction of our country in the name of a "One World Govt."
