Only about 1/2 of eligible voters vote. If, IF people will coalesce around the core document of the US, the Constitution, coupled with some common sense, good understanding of history and human nature AND some effective leadership, the United States of America CAN fix and save itself.

There are few things left I believe Americans will stand behind, but self-rule is one of them. All political leanings have more people against outside rule of the US. Even those that say "well Europe does it" still suggest that we copy them, not fall under them.

That's cute that we can continue to believe "we are independent", but the reality is that our economy has already become intimately mixed with those of other nations, and the connection is getting deeper all the time. I have to agree that all that are left now are the formalities, as the large-scale infrastructure has been established. And now we have a 'leader' willing to sell off the remaining bits.

Point is, we're already subordinate simply by the act of power by them by saying "Hey, you need to get your act together before you can step up to play with us."
