Perhaps, but you're also missing something else.

Most people in the United States DO believe in some kind of religion - and that includes politicians. Depending on the region of the country, belief in God is as high as 85%.

For a politician to professs his belief may well be genuine. Or they may quote the Bible completely inaccurately.

You know, like when anti-gun politicians claim they go hunting occasionally, but show atrocious ignorance around a gun.

Yeah, and how many of your "holy days" are federal holi-days??
If I remeber correctly there is only ONE religous holiday on the federal calendar, and that would be CHRIST(ian)MAS..

There have been some changes in recent years, allowing some to chose which holiday they wish to take, but for the last Century of so, it's only been Christmas.

It was always my thought that designating Christmas as a federal holiday is a concession to reality, just as designating the first day of hunting season - in some areas - as a school day is just practical. What's the point of having school - or work - open on a day when no one plans to come?

Well - that - and the fact that it is the ONLY "Christian" holiday that people will take off from work, travel across country, schedule their vacations around and so forth.
