Notre Dame; Lawrence O'Donnell...

...giving Larry's a bad name everywhere.

There are objections to Obama speaking at Notre Dame because he supports abortion and Catholics don't support taking of life and there is the counter argument that Dubbya was invited, without objection, yet he allowed all sorts of deaths via the death penalty in Texas and allowed the killing of all sorts of people in the two wars.

So, The Larry O'Donnell's of the world are vehemently pointing out that contradiction and hypocrisy, as they see it. O'Donnell went at it with Pat Buchanan this AM, calling Pat a liar and stating that the Catholic church sees the death penalty and abortion as equal and that the Church had begged Bush to not go to war in Iraq and so forth.

Buchanan made the point that there can't be a moral equivalence between abortion and murderers being put to death.

O'Donnells says the church sees them the same and Pat is wrong about not objecting to Bush speaking at Notre Dame and, thus, should not be objecting about Obama speaking there.

Quite heated. Should be a vid of this available later.

What I note, as an agnostic, is the blatant ugliness, in my view, of the equating a murderer's execution and abortion.

So, Catholics, is it right to object to Obama speaking at Notre Dame and not object to Bush?

Sure it is; As a religion Catholics are against abortion and stem cell research, Obama is putting public funds available for both. I hope they get the support to reverse the decision to let him speak and rescind the Honorary Degree he is supposed to receive from the University. Just because he is President doesn't mean he has morals that others value. Personally i would love to see him have to submit to the polygraphs and background investigations that I have to be subjected to in order to keep the job I have;

Are you Catholic? O'Donnell says on the clip that when the polls come out, some 90% of Catholics will be in support of Obama speaking there.

One of the Fox shows had two Notre Dame gals who were heading an effort to get Obama booted from speaking. Very well-spoken, intelligent, common sense pointed. And I've never heard from them again.

If they were Cindy Sheehan, they'd have become instant celebrities.

Yes; I believe the 90% will come from people who are trying to be politically correct and will be part of a selective polling process that the media will cull to fit their agenda. I hope they pull the plug, let him go somewhere else and spew his ideology

People can MAKE that argument, but if they knew anything about Texas law, they'd know how idiotic it is. Unlike some states where the governor can just call on the phone and stop the execution and completely pardon someone, the best a Texas governor can ever do is delay it by thirty days, and he can only do that once. He can commute a sentence ONLY if it has been forwarded to him by the Board of Pardons and Paroles. The Board has the final say, in every respect.

The Catholic church, to my understanding, is against the death penalty and usually opposed to most wars. But abortion tops their list, because their point of view is that it is murder. While thousands have been killed on the field of battle in recent decades, *millions* continue to be aborted. This is their perspective - they believe these are murders, and they are done on a scale that dwarfs modern warfare.

Did you watch the clip? O'Donnell was quite exercised because he sees this as hypocritical and claims the church sees the death penalty and abortion as equal. He was very worked up about it and called Buchanan a liar and said Pat needs to take it up with the Pope, so, that's what I am trying to establish, is it equal to the church?

I don't mind not understanding them. What I DO mind is how their views affect me personally, and how they bully and browbeat and use the media to make their views the ONLY views.

To compare abortion to war or a death row inmate is ridiculous, and O'Donnell should be laughed off the stage.
