You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.

You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don't control monetary policy, The Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president and nine Supreme Court justices - 545 human beings out of 300+ million - are directly, legally, morally and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.”

I have a good friend who is very smart, and generally knows s*** from shinola. But he doesn't vote.

His reason? It makes no difference. And he doesn't follow political issues either. Reason? It makes no difference. His taxes go up, and he gets very little beneift from it.

He's content to watch reality TV or sports or whatever, because in his mind, no matter who gets in, as far as his life is concerned, it makes no difference. You might as well ask him about professional soccer - he has no idea.
