I guess what bothers me almost as much as what this guy says is to learn he is a professor from Kuwait, a nation which would no longer exist were it not for the blood of Americans.

Although it's par for the course for a person freed by Americans to be completely ungrateful. No good deed ever goes unpunished.

They're really nice guys, just misunderstood. If we'd leave them alone, they'd leave us alone. I like Mensa's idea of us all becoming Muslims so we don't offend them and make them do terrorism things.

This is exactly why I fault Bush for not going in hard and staying hard until everyone who needed killing was killed. The Middle East is not now nor ever was some sort of mystery. If you play by Western rules of what should or should not motivate people, you lose. End of story.

Had we just kept on letting the troops do their jobs, not allowed any of these types, Sadr and so forth, set up their own shop then, the message becomes clear; we are the masters. You lose. When you stop short, like we did, everything in their beliefs is reinforced and validated; we are weak, we are corrupt we are not devout or sincere.

I mean, that is how Islam started; Mohamed killed until everyone got the picture and took to his ways. End of story. That was how it works, that is how it works, over there. It's no mystery why Iraq was a dictatorship and will very likely become one again when we leave or why Saudi is a monarchy or Syria is a thugocracy. That's how it works.

So, go in, get it done, or DON'T GO.

...without running into 10 or 15 'protected minority' folks wearing keffiyehs. They have been Palestinian tribal colors (black and white) but I've noted colors from other tribes the past three weeks.

Aside the obvious sexual sub-text - I don't follow "Bush" here unless you are referring to his father. Kuwait was freed in the first war with Iraq, and this man is a Kuwaiti.

MY point is that, among other things, you can fully expect this kind of behavior from people no matter what. You can drive the Germans across France, and they'll still you to go eff yourself. You can march 100 miles across the Bataan peninsula until you drop dead or bayonetted - or are burned alive - and the Filipinos will still tell you to get the hell out. You can save thousands of Indonesians from starvation and disease after a tsunami, but you will never, ever, ever earn their thanks. Nor will the world thank you. You have to be content knowing you did the right thing.

I'm still taken aback by this guy, who in all likelihood would not have his home or freedom to speak at all were it not for some American willing to shed his blood, and yet we have people laughing at his suggestion that some American militia member might succeed in blowing up a nuclear plant. And I'm horrified that he believes it in accordance with his religion.
