Plain and bare:

George Bush was wildly unpopular, with Democrats and Republicans alike. It was no secret that he didn't have the support of GOP voters and his approval ratings were in the toilet.

Had a conservative won the 2008 primary, that would have sent a strong message. However, McCain won and that sends a different message entirely. So now you have to wonder how many Republicans are conservative? And, just judging by the election, it would appear that not many are.

If the Republicans reject conservativism, and the Democrats reject conservativism, there aren't many voters left to put a conservative in office.

Why? Because he was too conservative?

You tell me.

Why didn't a conservative win the Republican nomination, if we like conservatives so much?

I believe the Libertarians are basically disgusted Republicans and that is why they rag on the GOP all the time. Many like Larry are suffering from BDS and just plain disgust at the Republican party. I am pretty disgusted myself and thinking of registering as Independent.

Republicans seem to like cowering in a corner and letting Democrats beat them with a thousand cuts.

Well, there you have it. A conservative didn't win, ergo, we don't want conservatives. We want John McCain and Barack Obama.

No chance the other candidates weren't good enough? Oh, right, if there wasn't a good enough one, that means we don't want one anyway!

No chance the divisions in the GOP made it impossible for a conservative to get very far this cycle? Of course not! Why, if we wanted conservatives, we'd have one!

You know Reagan lost in 1976, right? In your thinking, Reagan should have not won in 1980. People called him a kook, too. Until he won.

You keep spinning it. You keep believing ol' Dubbya wasn't all that bad and in three short years, we'll have us another one just like him. You keep believing that because McCain was the nominee therefore, even in Maryland, one MUST vote party or they are voting for the D.

Yippee.

I don't suffer Bush Denial Syndrome. That's y'all.

I don't suffer Bush Derangement Syndrome, either. My criticisms of him are fair and accurate. That you fine folks support the GOP, no matter what, is your business.

Voting third party across the board (local, state, federal) wil probably send the strongest message to Washington.

An era of "3rd Party" would force the two parties to get back to their core ethics.

If a Libertarian becomes elected...do you guys honestly think that legalizing drugs will be their highest priority for legislation? I think they would put that kind of stuff wayyyy on the back burner.
