Pelosi on waterboarding: I knew nothing

Quote:
Or rather, almost nothing. She admits she was told that waterboarding could be used but insists she was never told it would be used, which I can only take to mean she was sufficiently comfortable with the practice in theory as not to call a halt to it in the conceptual stage.

Needless to say, according to Porter Goss, she’s a liar:
Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, who in 2002 was the ranking Democrat on the House committee, has said in public statements that she recalls being briefed on the methods, including waterboarding. She insists, however, that the lawmakers were told only that the C.I.A. believed the methods were legal — not that they were going to be used.

By contrast, the ranking Republican on the House committee at the time, Porter J. Goss of Florida, who later served as C.I.A. director, recalls a clear message that the methods would be used.

“We were briefed, and we certainly understood what C.I.A. was doing,” Mr. Goss said in an interview. “Not only was there no objection, there was actually concern about whether the agency was doing enough.”
That jibes with WaPo’s blockbuster from December 2007 describing a virtual tour Pelosi (among others) was given of one of the CIA’s black sites, replete with descriptions of waterboarding used on detainees. And it jibes with Pete Hoekstra writing today in the Journal that Congress knew a lot more about all of this than its more “enlightened” members would have you believe.

Listening to this shrew screech is torturous to the American people.

It's the same argument as, "yeah, we gave Bush authorization to go to war, but we didn't think he'd actually use it."

I saw Pete Hoekstra tonight on TV all but calling her a liar.

These lefists in Congress really do think they can say anything and get away with anything. They're making very bold & dangerous moves which are going to cause this country a lot of trouble.

I know that. They're very brazen and think we have no recourse. It will backfire on them.

The GOP is demanding that if they try and move forward with any prosecution that we start getting who knew what under oath! All of a sudden the left is starting to back down on prosecution and it's funny how Nancy Pelosi seems to have lit the cigar that blew up in her face...

Exactly.

The word of the week is 'over reach'.

I don't know what more we'll find out if a blue-ribbon investigative panel of some kind is formed. But what we already know is enough to ensure that sooner or later, the abusive interrogation methods authorized by Bush, Dick Cheney and other officials are going to be measured against the law. Our system, left to its own devices, is not designed to let illegal acts be revealed and then ignored.

I guess Robinson was not around during the reign of Clinton.

Eugene, water boarding is NOT torture. Repeat; NOT torture. Come on lefties, do your thing. Come on, Obama. This is what they elected you to do; get your pogrom started, baby.

If Nancy met with people and they described the waterboarding technique ,is she so stupid as to believe they hadnt learned the method by using it?

If she is that stupid is she competent to be leader of the democrats?

Certainly she knew, she is a lying POS.

I'm surprised that the "we didn't know" thing works at all anymore. Bush tricked us, because we didn't know all the details. We didn't know about the bonuses even though we all voted for it.

It makes the very obvious argument clear - either you are lying out your butt, or you are almost too stupid to live. When you're consistently outfoxed by a man regarded by the left as the world's stupidest, it only means you're dumber than he is.

Why don't they just answer with "I was too stupid to care"? It would be more honest.

It only worked the first time because McCain and Romney and Thompson were simply not very good at calling BS on that. Rudy was pretty good at it. However, he didn't make it far enough. In a debate against Obama on the issue, he'd have handed Obama his ass where as McCain handed him his too good to get dirty gentle touch.
