A Culture Soaked in Blood........................

"Philip Markoff, a medical student, supposedly carried his semiautomatic in a hollowed-out volume of “Gray’s Anatomy.” Police believe he used it in a hotel room in Boston last week to murder Julissa Brisman, a 26-year-old woman who had advertised her services as a masseuse on Craigslist.

In Palm Harbor, Fla., a 12-year-old boy named Jacob Larson came across a gun in the family home that, according to police, his parents had forgotten they had. Jacob shot himself in the head and is in a coma, police said. Authorities believe the shooting was accidental.

There is no way to overstate the horror of gun violence in America. Roughly 16,000 to 17,000 Americans are murdered every year, and more than 12,000 of them, on average, are shot to death. This is an insanely violent society, and the worst of that violence is made insanely easy by the widespread availability of guns.

When the music producer Phil Spector decided, for whatever reason, to kill the actress, Lana Clarkson, all he had to do was reach for his gun — one of the 283 million privately owned firearms that are out there. When John Muhammad and his teenage accomplice, Lee Malvo, went on a killing spree that took 10 lives in the Washington area, the absolute least of their worries was how to get a semiautomatic rifle that fit their deadly mission.

We’re confiscating shampoo from carry-on luggage at airports while at the same time handing out high-powered weaponry to criminals and psychotics at gun shows."

That sure doesn't stop you from trying though, does it?

This is an insanely violent society
Funny how Liberals created this society and now complain about it. But hey, here's an idea: limit every single freedom of peaceful people and make the courts weaker and more lenient and this is all bound to change.

And by whose measure is our society "insanely violent" anyway? I'm sure if the bloggers would ever open a book they would find much better examples - Genghis Khan, Vlad Tepes, Nero, or more modern folks like Mao Tse-Tung, Mussolini... or how that beautiful Afghan society once led by the Taliban. But I'm sure America is, somehow, much worse.

According to this here site Doctors are the Third Leading Cause of Death:
• 12,000 deaths per year due to unnecessary surgery

• 7000 deaths per year due to medication errors in hospitals

• 20,000 deaths per year due to other errors in hospitals

• 80,000 deaths per year due to infections in hospitals

• 106,000 deaths per year due to negative effects of drugs

Thus, America's healthcare-system-induced deaths are the third leading cause of the death in the U.S., after heart disease and cancer.

Clearly, the medical profession is bad for your health, and yet, they let almost anyone who wants to go to medical school and become a doctor or a nurse.

Oh, and just to put the whole gun violence thing into a little different frame of reference, according to the CDC, ALL HOMICIDES ranked at number 15 on the list of leading causes of death. Want to guess what percent of the population died as a result of homicide in 2005 (last year they have complete data for)? 7/10ths. That's less than 1 percent, stupid. Go look for yourself (Table B): http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvsr/nvsr56/nvsr56_10.pdf.

There's a whole bunch of stuff on that list that I've never heard of, have no clue as to what some of those things are, and yet, they cause far more deaths in this country than all homicides.

Call me crazy (and hand me a high-powered weapon), but somehow, our priorities are askew in this country.

I see Herbert cites that bastion of rational thought and fairness, The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. I expect nothing less from the New York Times.

Horror in Kenya as death toll nears 800 after new machete clashes | Mail Online

people will kill each other with whatever they have at hand.

Taking guns away from law abiding citizens would only give more power to the criminals.
