Post Steele Ejects Specter From Republican Party

Washington -- Bystanders recoiled in horror this afternoon when Michael Steele's black Cadillac Escalade screeched to a halt in front of the Democratic National Headquarters building and dumped the body of Senator Arlen Specter on the marble steps.

The scene, reminisce of a Hollywood gangster movie sent citizens running for cover until they realized Specter wasn't dead.

A deeply concerned Nancy Pelosi immediately rushed outside to Specter's aid. She is credited with saving his life and the President's staff is planning an award ceremony to honor Pelosi for entering the street under fire to rescue the distressed Senator.

During a news conference from his hospital room, Specter told reporters that when Pelosi cradled him in her bosom and welcomed him into the Democratic party, he knew everything would be alright. My own comrades waterboarded me because I wouldn't agree to more bailouts, Specter broke down and told reporters.

Republicans meanwhile cried foul over the lost Senate seat and denied any involvement from Steele in the bizarre incident, but witnesses told police nobody else in Washington has 42" spinner wheels on their Escalade. Regardless, the lost seat now gives Democrats the ability to shutdown all of the Republican's childish efforts to further bankrupt the country.

Doctors state they have injected Specter with brain stem cells from a local abortion clinic to speed his recovery.

Wall Street took the news in stride and the DOW finished the day down - 0.10%. Traders said the loss of Specter was previously priced into trading and characterized it as a non-event. The cost of insuring Republican election default swaps increased 45% however.

Spectre changed parties to keep his lucrative job.

It has nothing to do with party except he was going to lose the Primary and he knew it.

Spectre isnt the only POS on Capitol Hill who would sell their mother and their first born to keep sitting in their high dollar office ,and live like royalty.

We are no longer governed by patriots, but by slick lawyers padding their own nest.

Don't worry, Obamy will save us by turning this country into a socialist nation and controlling everything.

Yep, pretty much, which is why all of his sanctimony about the direction of the party is meaningless. He made it clear enough that at 79, winning next year's primary against Twomey at the age of 80 and a fairly liberal record isn't going to win. He tried to make it a case of the party and the makeup of the state being out of touch, but it's his job he's concerned about.

Personally, although I know the Democrats are delighted at this, it's kind of weaselly to do this to Republicans who got into all kinds of trouble going to bat for him in 2004, because they felt he was "electable". As recently as a month ago, he declared he wasn't going to do this.

Honestly, as far as filibuster-proof, not much has changed. Specter's vote as a Republican is always up for grabs. Whether he has a D or an R after his name, if he votes D, the magical 60 makes no difference.

So I'll go out on a limb here and make a prediction - the Democrats will dump him in 2010 for a younger guy. Why not? They've made progress in a marginally blue state and no longer need to worry about running *against* him. If a liberal senator is going to win anyway, why bother with an 80 year old former Republican? So Specter should make the best of his new found friends, because he won't have a friend in the world this time next year.

Here is the way I see it, and it really should hit a cord with the democrats.

He wants to win again.
He claims that his views have not changed, he will still operate as he always has in reference to his votes.
So why change? if his view is what got him elected in the first place, shouldnt it stand to reason that he should change his view???
but he is not.

What he did was (according to him) changed the R to a D. Why? because he knows that the democrats will vote for a D over an R regardless of any issue, because the dems have no clue on who stands for what, they just want the D.

pretty smart of him if you ask me. But not really what we need in public office voting on real life issues.

and the best part? It will work.

Isn't it ironic.
