Obama Seeks to Change Crack Sentences

"The Obama administration is asking Congress to close the big gap in prison sentences for dealing crack versus powdered cocaine, a law that critics say is unfair to blacks."

Newsmax.com - Obama Seeks to Change Crack Sentences

Seems to me, it would be better to ensure all guilty parties black or white get thw same tough sentence. What's next? Rape, carjacking, indecent exposure?

So, if it can be demonstrated that more white males pay higher percentage of taxes than any other demographic, can we declare our tax laws unfair to white males?

I hope they do close that gap.
I would love to see regular cocain get the same length of time as crack, its way past time for the light sentance for cocain to be harsher.

now, I wonder if there are other circumstances involved that might make it look like its worse than it is.
for instance, number of times whitey was caught before and the number of times blacky was caught before.
Weapons involved?
Prior history of violent crime etc...

I have a feeling that these things are not looked at when investigating the treatment of each individual.

Then, the drug dealers will make even MORE money and buy off even MORE pols, cops, judges and lawyers and then we'll have even MORe violence because it will be worth it!

Lot of things not looked at when it comes to drugs. Like common sense, for one.

are you then suggesting that all drugs just become perfectly legal?

Strickter DUI laws are only going to make it more worth it to try and out run the police.
Strickter murder laws will only make it more worth it to kill more people to cover your trail

we can play this all day. Bottom line is that harsher laws, not lessor laws are the answer.

No...he is saying that in the business world, the greater the risk, the greater the return is demanded by the investor. If you raise the penalty for drugs, it merely makes the investors innovate ways to get greater return for their investment (such as by growing hydroponic MJ which takes up less space and is less detectable; making cocaine into more profitable crack; etc.)

Stalin and Hitler could not agree with you more.

Washington and Jefferson and Franklin could not agree with you less.
