Dems eliminate entitlement...

Well, they, if nothing else, have proved they are familiar with the concept.

After arguing on national TV that Spectre has been offered no bribes, that his seniority simply ENTITLES him to things, he has found that that is not the case;

Quote:
Sen. Arlen Specter lost big under a resolution approved by the Senate Tuesday night: He won't be able to retain his seniority on five committees this Congress.

In announcing his switch to the Democratic Party last week, Specter said that Democratic leaders assured him that he would be treated as if he were elected as a Democrat 29 years ago — essentially allowing him to leapfrog most Democrats and put himself in line to become a committee chairman if he wins reelection in 2010. Several Democrats have taken exception to the notion that Specter would be taking possession of their prized real estate.

Now, while it's certainly appropriate that Spectre got screwed, what I find more noteworthy is the politics of this.

Democrats know what it is like and how to justify eliminating or limiting entitlements.

Gee, he was a fool to think they were going to give him those committees! This is so predictable. They're going to throw him under the bus at re-election time, too. Sold his soul, he did.

I do NOT care about Spectre, at all. He has been a net harm to his party and his nation since he got in the Senate. However, every time the GOP had a good challenger, the party supported Spectre so, self inflicted.

It might do well for some enterprising young wannabe to point out that the Dems do, in fact, know how to limit entitlements.

I don't care about him, either. Not a whit.

And you're right about the pointing it out to someone, although we shouldn't have to, that's for sure. (isn't that along the lines of what you've said the last couple of days?)

Hope they throw him under the bus and back over him a few times.

To me, politics is always about politics, all the time, the public square, the arena of ideas. It should be. It's supposed to be. That is how we decide between reducing, say, entitlements or expanding them. Voting yes or no. This idea or that. That's what it is all about.

When the dems start eating their own, I have to look close at what it is about that person that they suddenly dont like.
He may be good for the country after all.

I can't remember if it was that article or another one that said the Dems would reconsider his committe positions after mid-term elections. Right. That is of course, the next time he goes up and has to actually RUN as a Democrat, because he's up for re-election that year.

I'm sorry, but they've really screwed this guy. It really wouldn't surprise me if they just dump his nomination completely, because no one in PA is gonna want a guy representing them who can't deliver jack sh** after 30 years.

I've been skeptical about the GOP for a while, but the fact remains that the Dems took Congress by running moderate to conservative Democrats. The idea that the GOP needs to move to the left is wrong.

I think that's funny as hell They did the same thing to Jim Jeffords - lured him away from his party, then stripped him. You'd think Specter would be smarter, but apparently not.

Now you and I are on the outside, we dont know the inner workings of the House, yet Spectre has been there for almost 30 years and he obviously has learned nothing either.

The Democrats didnt screw Spectre, he screwed himself.

How smart is he to have taken the word of his fellow crooks.

He is now a man without a friend. He crapped on his friends and Now his new friends have crapped on him. The man is 79 years old , senile, two-faced, and now toothless.

It's time he moved on.
