But with the way Obama is taking over everything, I'm putting my money under the mattress for now.

you realize that diesel is cleaner burning now than gas right?
so if you are getting the same as the diesel, (and much less power) then you are contributing to the "Global Warming" problem at about 30% more than the Jetta.

In a sarcastic tone borrowed from the greenies.

What gives you the right to pollute my air like that when there are alternatives available?

let me add
the Civic is a really nice car. Love the interior that it comes with.

Its just that when I think about spending the extra for a hybrid, I want to get some really outstanding mileage from it, enough so that it will cover those batteries after the standard 36,000 mile warrenty is over.

I want to know when they (meaning any auto manufacturer) are going to come out with a diesel / electric hybrid.

I have a GM car (Pontiac, R.I.P.) and I like it.

Fuel mileage is great - I've managed to squeeze 400 miles out of a tank of fuel on the way back from Rockingham Speedway (going up US-1) in North Carolina.

Car is way overpriced but I couldn't get financing through Toyota or Honda with having almost 0 credit history. GMAC has a first time buyer's program.

Only thing I'm worried about is the warranty. GM said they'll only honor Pontiac warranties for a few years. I'm supposed to have a 6 year, 100,000 mile warranty on it. I'll probably run up 100,000 miles before GM kills Pontiac warranties.

If it breaks before 100,000 miles and GM won't fix it, I'm parking the car on The White House lawn and making President Obama fix it since he essentially forced GM to cut Pontiac.

Several manufacturers have had them in the pipeline. The issue with diesel hybrids is producing them at a price point that the marketplace will accept. Volkswagen reversed plans last year to bring a concept Golf to market, ostensibly because they felt they couldn't make the pricing work. BMW and Mercedes have both had them in development as well, but I don't recall where they stand with them now.
