Didn't we discuss this before? I'm trying to recall; isn't there some sort of reg or law or something that ripped the mileage out of diesels? My brother in laws Jetta gets something like 50 mpg highway. It's old, it's got 200,000 miles on it and it still just rolls on.

What was the deal? Import regs where those smaller, highly efficient euro diesels couldn't be brought into the US en masse?

Point being, right there is you 100% effective answer to global warming/C02/big oil/conservation; cars that get 60% better mpg; diesels.

I agree with everything said about the diesel except one thing. I hate the smell. it drives me nutz when I am behind one. I know they are better and get better mileage, but I suspect the smell is what turns many people like me off.

not sure but it makes me feel better, I can get over 700 on a tank on open highway unloaded with my truck.
