Not really sure we do, either, even in the Republican primary.

I hate the fact that campaigns are allowed to go on so very long, and the primaries are spread out over months. When was the last time your vote in a primary had the slightest chance of affecting the nomination?

I hate the fact that because they take so long, it's left to the candidates with the most money, because they can stay in it for longer. So you don't get to vote for the best candidate - you get to vote for one of the well heeled guys still in the race.

Kool-Aid no, the better of the 2 yes!!!
I voted for Ron Paul in the primaries. But, most Republicans did as they were told and voted for McCain.

You're never going to change Washington if everyone keeps drinking the kool-aid.

No one TOLD me to vote for McCain, I'm a free thinker and if Obama had any real qualifications I would have voted for him because I try and base my decisions on the Best Qualified. So who TOLD you to vote for Ron Paul and his sweeping loss?

Nothing stops any of us from voting for who we actually support, even if it is someones cat. If you wanna argue that one MUST vote for whomever they're told to, especially when the other guy is sooooooo horrible, we disagree. I consider all that this nation has been through and accomplished over the years that my vote is far too precious to line up and do as I am told.

I'm not gonna jump off a cliff because that's what everyone else is doing nor am I going to convince myself that in so doing, it is somehow the right thing to do.

The power the individual holds is in NEVER voting for someone they aren't satisfied with voting for. That others may or may not do as they wish or as they are told has nothing to do with my decision.

By the time the Maryland primary's come around our choice has already been limited.

I voted for FredThompson in the primary's even though Mccain had already been picked.

The primary system where other states get to vote far in advance of others is an unfair system. All states should ahve primary's the same day. Having yankees in New Hampshire pick my candidate, pisses me off to no end.

If people voted for who they support and refused to accept someone else's leftovers, the system would change.

I don't see your point.

If my candidate officially withdraws after Super Tuesday, and my state hasn't voted yet, a vote for him changes nothing. If by the time my state gets to vote, the race is over and a candidate has cinched the nomination, my vote is rendered irrelevant.

That would explain why he got 47% of the total primary vote, and a few of those percentage points cam after he cinched it. Hard to go cast a vote for Romney or Huckabee if they're not running.

No one does. It's just my view that too many people are more than happy to vote for someone they consider the less of two evils then wonder why nothing changes to make the system better represent their views and ideas.

Your argument isn't relevant to what we're discussing regarding the primaries.

The situation in the primaries is, because it is strung out over many weeks, voters are deprived of a vote because the race is pretty much over by the time they get a chance. You could go out and vote, but in many cases, your candidate of choice has LEFT THE RACE, because the nomination has been cinched by someone else.

It's one thing to vote for someone because you want to support them in the face of overwhelming odds, but it is idiotic to vote for someone when they've already quit the race.
