"A Republican Senate challenger in Arkansas who called Sen. Chuck Schumer “that Jew” spent the week backtracking, apologizing, and digging himself in deeper.

Kim Hendren, the minority leader of the Arkansas state Senate dropped his J-bomb at campaign event last week, but it’s trickled slowly up to the national stage since, pushed along by poorly worded mea culpas.

Hendren, who is challenging Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln, told Arkansas blogger Jason Tolbert he put his foot in his mouth while explaining “that unlike Sen. Schumer, I believe in traditional values, like we used to see on ‘The Andy Griffith Show.’”
