There is another component to this debate. Some people are put off when other people are advocating for snail darters, squirrels, fish and trees and 'their' rights yet do not lift even a finger in defense of THE most helpless among us; human babies.

If those people were intellectually consistent; defending the rights of the helpless, be it the unborn or amoebas and all points in between, a good bit of opposition to abortion on demand would remain silent. At least then there is no hypocrisy quotient, the indigestible lump of many disagreements.

Yet one more component is those who worry so about the welfare of violent criminals and...terrorists...yet, once again, abortion is NONE of their business.

I think most Americans would be fair about abortions for rape, incest or even a mistake in the first trimester.

But there is no room for debate on partial birth abortions, or throwing a living failed abortion in a laundry basket and awaiting it's death. No room for abortions because it is the wrong gender.No room for using abortions as a birth control method, or for multiple abortions by the same so called mother.
