Panneta and the White House...

PostPartisan - What Did Rahm Know?

Quote:
Commentators have been struck -- though not perhaps as much as they should have been -- by the extraordinary character of CIA Director Leon Panetta’s blunt and stark rebuke of Nancy Pelosi. Responding to political debates that “reached a new decibel level [Thursday] when the CIA was accused [by Pelosi] of misleading Congress,” Panetta wrote Friday that “our contemporaneous records from September 2002 indicate that CIA officers briefed truthfully on the interrogation of Abu Zubaydah.”

But did Panetta simply decide on his own to send this letter? It’s almost inconceivable. Panetta is a former member of Congress and a former White House chief of staff. President Obama made him CIA director only four months ago. Even if his motivation for the letter was in part driven by an institutional imperative to defend his agency, Panetta would have understood the political implications of humiliating a House speaker of his own party. He surely at least ran the letter by White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel to get clearance. It’s also possible that Panetta was encouraged to send the letter by Emanuel.
If you read the piece, you'll likely react to it and think "Yeah, that's a pretty reasonable assessment. Interesting, something to think about."

And that's that.

Then, if you're a geek, as I am, and read the comments at the bottom, you get this white hot explosion of sentiments and insults and outrage that Kristol would dare ask such a question. A BUNCH of them.

This nation is filled with very angry people who become incensed at the simplest things.

Obama is doing his level best to appear neutral in this, Voting Present in other words.

If he had kept his Muslim yap shut in the first place there would be no issue.

That's why it's an interesting piece by Kristol, whom I typically don't much enjoy.

This is NO way Panetta, with his background, just did this on his own. So, the question, did the White House do this because they want Nancy weakened or to get rid of her?

His latest rhetoric seems to reflect that he appears to realize that the spending led by Pelosi will kill the goose that's been laying golden eggs for the last 200 years.
... and he'll be blamed for the death.

You know, I'm not sure how he thinks. He's called a pragmatist by those who refuse to call government taking over the economy impractical. He's called a 'listening' president by people who don't much deal with the fact that, when he hears something he doesn't like while listening his response is "I won."

What I do know about him and see is that he is a lawyer which means he thinks lawerly which means a case can be made for ANYTHING and doubt can be raised about ANYTHING. He is an organizer that knows the power of the mob, how to build it, how to use it. And he is a cold blooded killer when it comes to winning be it how he got elected to state office, how he won the senate, how he beat Hillary.

So, if getting his way runs into objections about HOW he wins, that's one thing. I'm just not seeing why Pelosi is a problem for him.

Maybe it's personal?

I read about half the comments. 'Wow' is about the best I can describe the anger and hate from the far left nutjobs. I don't know how these folks go through life being so pizzed off all the time.

Well Nancy does rule the roost. All funding and tax bills by law must originate in the House, which she runs with an iron fist and has MANY under her thumb. Perhaps she is giving him push back or making demands he doesn't like behind the scenes.

The problem is will the far left of the party withdraw their support of her and allow the Speakership to move to the center? Obama is not exactly a centrist.

Funny, anyone else just realize that TV Harry Reid has been surprisingly silent lately?

I think the far left is enraged right now at being in the position to have to make excuses for Pelosi versus their desire to get the Inquisition up and running.

O'rhama, clearly, can't make up it's mind if this water boarding show trial nonsense helps or hurts, so, they're, it seems, trying to clear the decks and limit the number of people who are in a position to influence what comes next so that they can control what to do, as much as possible, when the polls finally tell them what a real leader would do.

Reid, obviously, was briefed as well on water boarding which explains why we are not hearing a peep out of him these days. Laying low.

So, motivation. You've got to be right; she's not playing as they wish and this is her warning. What does Pelosi want that they don't?
