White House: Closing Gitmo a 'Hasty Decision'

RealClearPolitics - White House: Closing Gitmo a 'Hasty Decision'

"White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said closing the detention center at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, was a “hasty decision,” in his daily press briefing with reporters."

Oops!

So after Congress refuses to fund the closing, Obama claims he's reconsidered?

Nope. The wars spiraled out of control leaving all sorts of messy details like this to be dealt with. Like TARP, like doing nothing about US oil independence, like massive government spending and growth, like doing little to get our borders under control, like still pretending Fanny and Freddy had nothing to do with anything, like growth in entitlements, just because Bush did it does NOT make it suddenly right simply because Obama is taking the same positions.

Fish on! Can't give an inch, can you Larry?

Bush was absolutely right in sequestering these terrorists outside the US and subjugating them to military tribunals. These are not "messy details", this is the only rational way to deal with landless, lawless terrorists. As Obama is now finding out.

Yes, he was.

There's your inch.

It is not, however, the most rational way to deal with our enemies.

I didn't say "enemies" anywhere, now did I? And while setting the captured terrorists free about 300 NM south of the Azores in a bacon canoe seems rational to me, I'm not in charge. Just as well, most likely. What would you do?

"I don't doubt that the President--and I think he'll say this tomorrow--that we've made some hasty decisions that are now going to take some time to unwind. And closing Guantanamo Bay obviously is one of those decisions," [Gibbs] added.

"And you said hasty," a reporter asked, “you talked about hasty decisions tomorrow, that it's going to take some time to unwind. Are you talking about the President's hasty decisions or the previous administration's hasty decision as it regards Guantanamo?”

"No, no, no, I'm sorry," Gibbs said. "My boss might want to know the answer to that. No, no, I'm discussing decisions that were made in the previous administration."

The reporter asked again, “You were not referring to the executive order?”

“No, no, no,” Gibbs said.
When did the Bush Administration decide to close the detention center at Gitmo?
