Before Americans lit the fires for their Memorial Day barbecues, North Korea lit four: an underground nuclear test -- far more powerful than their 2006 test -- and reportedly fired three short-range ballistic missiles.

Though the North Korean underground test didn’t erupt into the atmosphere, this is an exercise in mushroom cloud diplomacy.

Neither friend nor foe respects Obama. And neither will be led by him unless he learns quickly the lessons of the past.

President Obama apparently doesn’t understand that, as Reagan Secretary of State George Shultz said, diplomacy that is not backed by the threat of military force cannot succeed. Military force isn’t the first answer: it’s the last.

I don't think any nation (rogue or terrorist) actually think the USA has the 'nads to use military force against them - as a last resort or even to defend itself.

Raining down all hell and fury on the badguys that threaten our nation in such a way the rest of the world says, " Hey, you don't screw with those Americans - they don't play." Is the only kind of message much of the world understands today. After one or two incidents - the other nuts will fall in line. When the mushroom cloud bursts over DC, it will be too late.

Same old Republican Party, using fear to scare the mainstream population in to supporting them.

Reality sucks doesn't it? Lets go and have cookies and milk with the various entities that hate the U.S. and see how long it takes before they grasp the opportunity to take some of the toys that they have been developing and use them against us or our allies. Yeah, sounds like a great plan to me!

Or maybe, the author and Mike have no idea what's going on behind closed doors at The White House and The Pentagon and are just talking out of their asses to scare the public in to supporting their way of doing things.

Don't worry. Obama will just go and appologize to all the countries of the world and tell them we're still arrogant Americans. Everything will be alright after that happens.

Better to be prepared and alive than to be ignorant and dead. Keep supporting the creeps that want to be all touchy-feely with scum that want us dead. Are you under the impression that these situations are all first time events nad haven't been repeated thousands of times with different actions having different results?

About as much as those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it again. The world is not PBS and Obama is not Fred Rogers.
