Does Ted Kennedy deserve his extended cancer care?

Does Ted Kennedy deserve his extended cancer care?
By James Lewis (American Thinker column)

Senator Ted Kennedy, who is now 76 years old and was diagnosed with brain cancer in May of last year, is telling the world that nationalized medical care is "the cause of his life." He wants to see it pass as soon as possible, before he departs this vale of tears.

The prospect of Kennedy's passing is viewed by the liberal press with anticipatory tears and mourning. But they are not asking the proper question by their own lights: That question -- which will be asked for you and me when we reach his age and state in life --- is this:

Is Senator Kennedy's life valuable enough to dedicate millions of dollars to extending it another month, another day, another year?

American Thinker: Does Ted Kennedy deserve his extended cancer care?

I vote NO - if the gov't is can apply these life and death decisions to me and my family, it is only fair I can do it to them.

This murdering old dilipitated elitist drunk would be gone by now, if he had to be cared for by the system he advocates for the American people.

And with that exception they prove how weak their plan in and how little they think of the American people.

Yes.
he deserves it every bit as much as anyone else would. If there is a chance of recover, he should not be denied that chance.

If the bill passes, I would expect him to do the right thing and just die. Just like he would be asking others to do.

Law is defined to be a rule of action; but how can that be a rule, which is little known and less fixed? -James Madison

Under Obama's own philosophy, Kennedy does not deserve extended care.

"Jane Sturm told the story of her nearly 100-year-old mother, who was originally denied a pacemaker because of her age. She eventually got one, but only after seeking out another doctor.
“Outside the medical criteria,” Sturm asked, “is there a consideration that can be given for a certain spirit … and quality of life?”
“I don’t think that we can make judgments based on peoples’ spirit,” Obama said. … “Maybe you’re better off not having the surgery, but taking painkillers.“"

and either does my father in law who has been taking Chemo for three years now off and on to keep a cancer under control.
And my nephew might never have been born under these new regulations after a mis read on a ultra sound determined that he would be severly deformed and most likely downs syndrome, of course my brother and his wife had him anyway, and he is perfectly fine and extremely gifted in school, and playing piano at a college level while he is only in the 5th grade.

Sorry - I am totally against a 100 year old woman receiving a pacemaker. If she pays for it out of her own money, fine. But if insurance or our tax dollars are picking up the tab, she should have to face her mortality.

One of the things I like about my family (both bio sides of it) is that we die at a civilized age. Nobody hangs in there forever, trying to patch together a broken down body with devices and spare parts so their aged children can feed them through a tube. We go when it's our time and don't become a burden on society.

So if Obamacare will force these bionic fossils to bow out and stop wasting our resources and money trying to live past a natural age, I may like it better than I thought I did. Medical care is one thing, but outliving your body is just stupid and I wish people would stop trying to do it.

(Go ahead - make it personal and ask what if it was my grandmother or grandfather... )
