| And what if Nonno were capable of cognizant thought? See? Can't happen.

You seem to have this idea that if we keep rejecting the GOP, they will miraculously get a clue and put up a true fiscal conservative. Let me assure you, they will not. The only time they want to talk about spending reductions is when it's their opponent doing the spending. This relates to our conversation this morning about dealing with what *is* instead of trying to make it something it *isn't* and will never be. You are an optimist and you hope for something different. I am a realist and I deal with what is.

| Scary, but oh so true: Quoted from Larry Gude: "Our votes count but we, the people, are too ####ing stupid to use them on what we support. As long as we line up like lemmings, I mean ALL of us, even me, ( ) and pick our lesser of two evils, time and again, because the other guy is oh, just so heinous, then, the big players will, in fact, treat us like lemmings. Why not use us if we're willing to be used?"You might very well be closer to the truth than you realise................. ![]() PS: Nonno hasn't had a cognizant thought since he began posting here! ![]() Last edited by Penn : 08-05-2009 at 07:42 PM. |

McCain didn't get labeled 'RINO' six months or six years ago. He has been called that for over a decade. He got some 60 million votes and the GOP, based on that, is pushing aside Limbaugh, Palin and now the dread birthers. Had the people who actually didn't like McCain not voted for him, he'd have been wiped out and there would be no question as to what the GOP had to do to earn votes. As it is, they are pretty sure people will line up and go over the cliff again. YOU control what YOU do when you vote. We all do. You can't say "That's just the way it is and it will never change" while you're putting your head down and getting back in line. Or keep helping the GOP keep us lemmings in line. It is your choice. ![]()

| There's no real need for some sort of secret society to rule the world surrepticiously. Conspiracy theories are good for daydreaming about but I seriously agree with the poster who said there are just too many points of failure for it to be real. We're our own worst enemies. We have short attention spans and some of us don't even know who the VP is, much less be able to identify him from a group of 3 photos. Most people don't give a hoot about politics and government. Especially outside this little DC megalopolis. They don't want to be bothered with thinking about government and policies and what laws are being inacted - unless they're really socially conscious - in which case they can drag themselves away from Jon and Kate Plus 8 long enough for vote for the best looking/coolest/same party as my parents/most familiar sounding name candidate on the ballot. I believe we're moving in this direction because people are complacent and a whole generation slept through Civics classes and don't understand what our government is there for. So helping those "less fortunate" sounds good until you figure out exactly what socialism really is about. But I don't think there's a bigger entity controlling all of this, just as I don't think aliens landed on earth and orchestrated the building of the pyramids and Atlantis. New World Order? Doesn't that happen every time power shifts? |

| ... | I have suggested in the past that the "elected" officials were picked by other "elected" officials long before the election. You dont really get a choice of who runs, you get to vote from a selection of candidates that are presented to you by the party. then when you vote its closed ballet so nobody knows who you voted for, or who actually won. I have long suggested that the process is a scam. You get who they want you to get.
