Dude, the protesters in the video allowed the Town Hall Meeting to continue without disruption.

Who's stopped a town hall meeting thus far? As far as I can tell, the current people talking at town halls are actually talking about the substance of proposed legislation. If they were chanting bumper-sticker slogans instead of substantive issues, would you feel better?

Because there is no denying that Southern Maryland (and MD in general) is largely a Democrat stronghold. You guys may come on here and shout down any liberals who may venture on here, but outside in the real world there are a lot more Democrats than Republicans in his district.

I've voted against him in every election I voted in. I even thought Brad Jewitt had a good chance. Nope.

Hard to break that up. Its why I favor Congressional term limits of 4 for the House and 2 for the Senate.

*MARYLAND* is. And that's because of Montgomery, PG, Howard, Baltimore and Baltimore County - and to a lesser extent, Charles. The rest of the state is mostly Republican. Anne Arundel, Calvert and St Mary's went for McCain last fall, which is significant enough since Obama won the state overall.

Steny manages to keep his seat largely because of PG, which has more Democrats than St Mary's has voters.

Dude, the Town Hall meetings belong to the People, not the politicians. For a town hall meeting to be disrupted, the politician (or government) would have to do the disrupting.

More entitlement Democrats and affirmative action government working Democrats who have jobs in DC. Those same people have creeped into Charles County and changed it's base.

True. Which is why I basically said "Good luck with that" to Chernmax.

I'm back and forth on this.

I am partly against it, because we'd be the only developed nation in the world with term limits on positions like Senator and Representative. Almost every nation has some kind of term limit on executives - governors, prime ministers, Presidents - and I understand that, because there's a conflict of interest.

But I also see from clear evidence that incumbents in the Senate and House almost always get re-elected. The ONLY chances to unseat come in either - a real issue or banner year, such as 1994 and 2006, coupled with voter unrest - open seats available through retirement, death or incumbent running for higher office - or districts that are historically close. In most House elections, incumbents win more than 90% of the time, and sometimes higher than 95%. Steny's been there since '81. For a house to truly represent the People, you can't have a man in office who's been there most of his life.

So I'm partly for it. What I'd prefer to term limits is an actual, fair and legal means of curtailing the power of incumbency. There just has to be some other reason incumbents win other than name recongnition. I can't believe people can give Congress single digit approval and STILL vote them all back in office.
