Soda tax; $.01 per ounce...

So, if a 12 oz can of soda costs $.99, we're looking at a 12% tax.

Twelve percent. This is tens of billions of dollars a year.

Then, the money gets set aside for health programs, obesity reduction. Then, those companies that serve that new government subsidy are set for life.

And how much less soda will you drink at an extra $.12 a can or an extra $.64 for a half gallon?

You will see an increase in the consumption of "flavored water".

Nope. I just caught the discussion on a TV show. They were discussing the current proposal, not a law. I'm sure there will be some links and video soon enough.

Here's an article from May

Federal Soda Tax Weighed | LiveScience

I wonder if they'll also tax diet soft drinks.

Never mind. They've got all the bases covered.

This is too fine a distinction for those mouthbreathers to understand. If it says soda or is bottled by a soda company, it'll get taxed. This is not about the content of the container, it's about the greed for more taxes without calling it taxes.

This will be one of the most offensive regressive taxes, second only to the tax on tobacco.

Diet? Good Lord. We've long since accepted 'sin' taxes, alcohol, smokes. Think of what WON'T be taxable if we start accepting 'diet' taxes!!!
