Nanny state snatches kids for being too fat
'This whole case has been dreadful; neither of these parents takes drugs'

A couple soon expecting their seventh child has had their fifth and sixth taken by social workers after warnings that the family needed to slim down their overweight kids or risk losing custody.

The unnamed 39-year-old mother from Dundee, Scotland, told the United Kingdom's The Sun newspaper, "This is every family's worst nightmare."

Scotland's television station STV reports the family was warned last year that they risk losing all of their kids, ages 3 to 13, unless the children lost weight. At the time, the youngest, a girl, weighed 56 pounds. The oldest, a boy, has since grown to over 220 pounds.

"This whole case has been dreadful," said Kathleen Price, the couple's attorney. "Neither of these parents takes drink or drugs. They have a big, happy, noisy family, which is prone to being overweight."

Price added, "To remove their children for that reason is scandalous. They had their children taken from them … and have no idea where they are. I have also had to warn them I believe social workers will enter the labor suite when their new baby arrives next month. They feel they are being victimized and are a complete mess."

The family's 3- and 4-year-old have been moved into foster care, and STV reports the parents have been told "active steps" are being taken to remove the remaining children as well.

Experts contacted by STV warn that local authorities in the U.K., such as Dundee's City Council, which oversees the decision to remove the children, now treat obesity as an "abuse issue."

And thus, the reason that the 2nd amendment is so important.

Well, without knowing how tall these children are, they sound grossly obese. And since the mother doesn't care to look after their health and nutrition, I agree with the kids being taken away.

Interesting. Do you feel children should be taken away if their parents don't buckle them or if they smoke around them?

At least you did mention height in your statement. My daughter is 3 1/2 and weighs 52 pounds. Here is a pic, she is in blue. I don't think my daughter is grossly obese. At little fluffy, but not obese by any means.

By these standards, they would remove my daughter from my care. I would rather they remove the under developed, malnourished children that don't have three meals a day.

Sure.

I think President Obama should appoint a Mommy Czar - I can think of several excellent candidates right here on this forum. The MC can police all parental activity and any time they see or hear of something that they don't personally approve of, they can have the child removed from the home.

The UK has a terrible problem with obesity..much like we have here...I think it is unnaceptable for a three year old to be overweight. This is the first time in history that children this young have been so obese...and suffer so many health issues..we have 10 year olds with medical problems of someone much older. It is laziness and junky gross food. I can understand older children..but three year olds run and play and go a mile a minute...there is absolutely no reason for them to be overweight.
that being said...children are better off fat than in foster care. I cant believe they would consider taking the children away..how ridiculous. maybe some nutritional counseling and some sports for the kids...the nanny state does bother me..but maybe a little help wouldnt hurt...because the way that three year old is going..it could have type 2 diabetes by the time its 8.

I see that they were given some help and a chance to be healthier. and they didnt take it. shows a little disregard for her childrens health.
