The NEA and the White House did encourage a handpicked, pro-Obama arts group to address politically controversial issues under contentious national debate. That fact is irrefutable.

But some have claimed that the invite and passages, pulled from the conference call that inspired the article, were taken out of context. Context is what I intend to establish here.

On August 10th, the National Endowment for the Arts, the White House Office of Public Engagement, and the Corporation for National and Community Service hosted a conference call with a handpicked arts group. This arts group played a key role in Obama’s arts effort during his election campaign, as declared by the organizers of the call, and many on the call played a role in the now famous Obama Hope poster.

Much of the talk on the conference call was a build up to what the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) was specifically asking of this group. In the following segment, Buffy Wicks, Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, clearly identifies this arts group as a pro-Obama collective and warns them of some “specific asks” that will be delivered later in the meeting.

However, when you add in the nearly $2 million the NEA handed out to those very arts organizations in the four months before the conference call -- including more than $1 million in stimulus funds -- it is time to start wondering whether a line has been crossed from merely unethical into the land of special prosecutors. Such an investigation might be the only way to get straight answers.

So far, the administration's response has been a stonewall. Yosi Sergant, then NEA communications director, denied that the NEA had organized the call or that he even had a copy of invitations to join the call. That was not true. A copy of the e-mail invitation from Mr. Sergant himself through his NEA e-mail account is now available on the Web. After this episode, the NEA communications office no longer responded to phone calls or e-mail.

NEA statements at odds with facts

Days afterward, Mr. Sergant was demoted to some unknown position in the NEA. In announcing the demotion, the NEA's unattributed statement continued Mr. Sergant's factual frugality. Among the whoppers: The conference call wasn't anything special because the NEA "regularly does outreach to various organizations to inform of the work we are doing and the resources available to them."

But here's what then NEA Communications Director Sergant said on the conference call: "This is just the beginning. This is the first telephone call of a brand-new conversation. We are just now learning how to really bring this community together to speak with the government, what that looks like legally."

That was with the Yoshi Sergeant guy - he's been booted under a bus somewhere and now there are audio tapes to show the Valerie Jarrett (direct to zerO connection.)

The WH is failing and they are in full panic mode. Their desperate use of the NEA has inspired me to change my avatar into something that more accurately describes the Obama admistration.

I thought the NEA was non-partisan and anti-Christian. The WH overplayed its hand making them a propaganda arm of the government.
