It's a shame that the previous commander in chief put us into this unfortunate situation to begin with. Being a former member of the military I know the cost that this war has had on me and my friends and family. It is important to take this time to re-evaluate the situation, and not just throw 100k more troops in there to die. We are fighting an ideology, not bruit force. It takes time for those new troops to get into country, and you can't blame those 43 deaths on the fact that the president hasn't ordered troop levels up yet. I think this represents a change in what we have seen previously. A leader not just launching thousands of troops into war to die, but someone who is weighing the pros and cons, and re-evaluating the mission. PS.... I am a republican, and a veteran.

The real problem in both Afghanistan and Iraq is that Americans no longer have the stomach for war and as such they elect a man who is of the same ilk... Why this becomes an issue is when the man they elected cannot seem to get the country out of the war nor can he seem to support the troops currently on the ground in the war zones.

Bottom line is this... He is the President now and he is responsible for what is going on there. When winter hits over there it makes it almost impossible to reinforce in Afghanistan. So while the 43 deaths may not have been avoidable the next 43 may have been.

Secondly, we as a country do not and certainly should not wait to see what the UN and NATO are going to do... Very few of their troops are dying...

But the good news is that Chicago is probably gonna get the Olympics in 2016... I wonder how many more will die by Obama's inaction by then?

Not to take sides, but I kind of wish it doesn't get them, for a handful of reasons. One is, we've had our fair share of Olympics - four each, Summer and Winter, more than anyone else. Second, we've had three in the past twenty years and Atlanta was a mere 12 years ago. Third, no Olympiad has ever been held in South America or Africa - Summer or Winter - despite the number of Olympic champions from that part of the world. Fourth, of all the cities in the United States, Chicago isn't really the city I'd most want to showcase before the world. It's hardly the face we want the world to see. I like Chicago, but I like a lot of places that aren't beautiful and magnificent.

If anything, the publicity of the numbers of brave men & women dying for their country has become a non-issue as the state run media tries in vain to hide all negativity for a sadly inexperienced president's poor decisions or the lack of a competent decision-making ability on his part.

His criticism of Bush's decisions came our of his mouth pretty easy before he got the job. His decisions to continue things the same as Bush validates the Bush "doctrine." Go sit in your dark corner cry over that truth...

Interesting. So us hunting down Osama Bin Laden and squashing the Taliban has nothing to with why we are in Afghanistan now does it?

hmmmm... me remembers 9/11 and why we are there, back then it was the only choice. The only drawback was we pussy-footed and did not turn the terrorist occupied area into a glass bowl, drill and tap every oil well with a pipeline filling up our tankers destined for our refineries.

During the campaign, all we heard from Neuman was how Afghanistan was the 'good' war and how Bush never 'listened' to his generals. Neuman has had plenty of time to make up his mind about what should be done. Maybe Rahm the puppeteer hasn't made up his mind yet.
