I don't think we should bash this new president for being cautious before ordering your son, daughter, or family member to go into war and potentially pay the ultimate price for our country. If your life were on the line, you would want someone to think long and hard about sending you to war. PS.... Even if he would have ordered new troops to go to war, the 43 young men and women probably would have still died. It takes time for those new troops to get into country, and you can't blame those 43 deaths on the fact that the president hasn't ordered troop levels up yet. I think this represents a change in what we have seen previously. A leader not just launching thousands of troops into war to die, but someone who is weighing the pros and cons, and re-evaluating the mission. PS.... I am a republican, and a veteran.
Obama started running for President almost two years before his election Before he won he knew what to do, or so he said. He has been President for 9 months now and has assumedly been keeping track of what is going on, so i dont ask him to rush to any decision, He should have some idea by now of what he wants to do.

My belief is that he hasnt got a clue, or that he is worried more about what the decision will mean for him politically than he is worried about our troops.

In any case this is no time to be flying off to have his ass kissd in Copenhagen.

Now if you believe that President Bush placed us in an unfortunate position, then you must believe we should leave Afghanistan. That's fine with me too. Pull out. But damn it do something. Fight this thing like the war it is or GTF out . Leaving our people out there farting around , guarding poppy fields, and getting killed is an untenable solution.

I'm not going to bother with rebutting the first sentence, we've been beating those dead horses over a year now. We just disagree.

Are you saying the General on the ground in Afghanistan, has courage but making a bad decision?

Neuman isn't making a decision on the request, which is a decision in itself. IMO, either win or leave. (I keep forgetting the word 'victory' doesn't exit for the Messiah unless he's talking about himself). Just don't ask our military to do an impossible job. Either give them the troops McChrystal requested (and ROE that actually work) or declare 'victory' now and bring them home. Just don't let our folks dangle in the wind.

Being a Vet myself.

Iraq may not been a great idea, but Afghanistan had to be dealt with and needs to be finished just like Iraq. As I have learned making a bad decision is better than making none at all. While President Bush may not have made the best decisions he did what a Leader is supposed to do and Led!

This waiting is costing more lives. I for one would love all my Service Brothers and Sisters to return to their families, but they realize just as I do and we all should that leaving will do nothing more than make the sacrifice of those who gave their lives meaningless.

If we pull out now and do not finish what we intended to do, then all of this is for nothing not just for the US, but the Afghans and Iraqis who want the same thing we do.

The President has decided....

To basically do nothing, and keep the status quo.

There will be little or NO build up of US troops in Afghanistan.. but they will continue to train Afghanis (like they are now) to protect and defend themselves..

Good thing he asked a General's opinion of what needed to be done. Now let us wait and see how big a sack McChrystal has..

Will he publicly come out and support Obama, "He's right, this is what needs to be done, and what I should have recommended" Or will he come out and support his troops. Restating what is required, and what will and won't work..
