Libertarians

I subscribe to reason magazine, among the other political/social/whatever mags I read regularly. For those of you who don't know, reason is a political and societal magazine for Libertarians, and promoting the Libertarian take on the issues of today.

(This is how I know to :snort: at dumbbells who insist that Glenn Beck, Andrew Napolitano, etc, are conservative Republicans.)

Anyway, I'm with them for the most part, and most of what they promote makes perfect sense. BUT. Then they'll go off on some stupid tangent like the following:

A woman in the UK was jailed for her failure to comply with an order that she stop being so loud when having sex:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-sto...5875-21313895/

The Libertarian take on this is that it's outrageous for someone to be penalized for enjoying sex.
Disturbing the Peace - Reason Magazine

Quote:
The cops took her in after neighbors complained of hearing her "shouting and groaning" and her "bed banging against the wall of her home." Cartwright has, quite reasonably, defended her inalienable right to be a howler: "I can't stop making noise during sex. It's unnatural to not make any noises and I don't think that I am particularly loud."
Clearly that's not the point; the point is that she was disturbing the peace and pretty much forcing everyone in her neighborhood to listen to her sex screams. And people are within their rights to not have to listen to someone get laid, and it's not someone's right to scream so loud the whole neighborhood hears them.

So there you go, Libertarians. That's why I hesitate to join your gang - because you're crazy and your desire for freedom interferes with the rights of others.

The good reasons for joining surely far outweigh this kind of reason don't they?

Not really. I think people are mostly too stupid to have unfettered freedom. If they didn't do dangerous and stupid things like, for instance, text while driving, and didn't require laws to force them into common sense behavior, I'd say sure. But as it stands...

I kept looking for some mention of an apartment, but the news articles and the reason article all said "house" and "home". So I'm figuring she must have been pretty freakin' loud.

Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing, even freedom.

It's something to be fought but not obsessed over.

Up to 5 years in jail for noisy sex is a little outrageous.

She wasn't jailed for noisy sex. She was jailed for failure to comply with the first several orders to cut it out.

You'd have to ask them.
