Calvert GOP

BTW, when I was at the Calvert Co. Fair yesterday, I visited the GOP booth.

I saw all the sign up sheets for various committes, etc. I saw that the Calvert Republican Women's groups listed their meetings. I noted that their meetings were during the day - when a lot of people are working. I suggested that this limits the number of participants to retired women or women who do not work outside of their homes. Even SAHM's may be busy with their children & not able to attend either.

The Calvert Women's Republican Leaders did have night time meetings listed, however.

So I made the suggestion that the Republican Woman's group have meetings when the majority of the general population of Republican Woman in Calvert County can attend. I was told that a Republican woman in CC may attend any of the groups for Republican women. That's fine and well, but the main group for Republican Women in CC needs to be more readily accessible to ALL of the Republican women in our county.

I'm on the mailing list for the GOP, but have not received a lot of info on the women's group stuff. So I asked to be put on that mailing list, too.

I got a couple bumper stickers from them. :) I also noticed several people stooped by and chatted, but the Dem booth looked deserted

I'm not a woman, but do think it sucks the meetings are all weekday....

A little bit of history ... the original Women's Group was established in 1958 and is composed mostly of retired or well-off women who CAN meet during the day. I asked the same questions that you are and made the same point when I first moved here many years ago. At the time, I was busy with work and childcare and this piece had to go on the back burner, so I let go of the outrage and disconnect.

I attended a fund-raising event last year where I noticed one glaring thing -- the average age of the gathering appeared to be about 65+. There were very few of us south of that number. One of my table mates was lamenting the fact that the party was not doing enough to bring in the younger people.

I see from the website that the Republican Women Leaders group was established in 2003 to give an option to people who work during the day.

I vote we get involved in the Republican Women Leaders and work for change from within. After all, we are all Republicans and we need to work together in order to effect any meaningful change. My kids are mostly grown and I'm finishing up the grad degree so I now have more time to get involved. I'll email the contact today. Actually, they should probably be afraid...very afraid.... There's nothing I like more than shaking up the status quo!

O.M.G. I totally forgot to mention - as we were leaving yesterday - STENY was just arriving at the DEM booth! I can't believe I forgot all about it. Thing2 just reminded me.

I was with Thing1 & Thing2 and the mom of one of Thing2's friends. We had been strolling around a bit before we left - so the kids could use up their tickets. I kept noticing the concentrated Police detail right in the "crossroads" or center of the fair a little bit before we actually left. I even commented on it to my friend. We figured they must be getting ready for the "Sat. evening crowd" to arrive. (and probably were, but) One time I even saw a guy dressed in a very nice suit - sunglasses & all - who stood out like a sore thumb, actually. And duh! I guess I was too busy admiring his uh - handsomeness - it didn't click with me.

Until we were leaving! Then we saw STENY and two SS guys a few feet away from the Dem Booth. STENY was over there hugging, kissing & shaking hands with the booth people. He'd just arrived - there were no throngs of Dem peeps there yet. (as near as I could tell) We didn't stay around to catch the luvfest. However, I DID have to grab ahold of Thing2 - because he was just itching to go over there & I knew no good would come of it if he did.

I donated at their booth at Bayfest in August & got one of the "proud member of an angry mob and I vote" bumper stickers. Unfortunately, I work in PG county and I'm afraid to put it anywhere near my new car lest I find vandalism damage shortly thereafter.

(check your pm's)

I have 2 of the buttons - "Angry Mob" and "Is it 2012 yet?" from attending the Town Hall Meeting. The lady was giving them away FREE!

My earned income credit money only goes so far, ya know.

I didn't want any of the stickers that much, (Thing2 did!) but I was also not going to donate one more penny unless it's to a particular candidate that I can support. I don't think they're doing right enough by us for me to keep giving them money.
