The question, at least in your original quote, was not how do we fix it, but more to the point of how did we get here.

The problem is that California has long been the sanctuary city for the illegals, they don't question them, they afford them all the same benefits as those that are here legally, they pay millions of dollars to put processes in place to teach them in Spanish, and what is near the billion mark in state funded health care. They spend hundreds of millions to keep them in jails when they get arrested.
The people of California have repeatedly fought nuclear power, and insist on maintaining the status quo even though the population of the state is growing. Basically, they continue to spend without thinking about how to pay.

So what if they do sell their oil, their resources? I can see where it might bring about a temporary relief to the public funds, and it might even bring some light to that tunnel, yet, given the new resources, would the citizens of California see clearly enough to make it work?

No, from talking to people that I know that live in California, (unfortunately relatives) I get the impression that the country should not only bail out California, but they should exceed the current needs so that the state can increase its humanitarian efforts in making the illegals comfortable.

As harsh as it may sound, Just as a hundred years ago California was a model of how a state could function and gain wealth, California must once again become a model for the rest of the country.
The causes of their demise have to be brought to light, and the state has to fail in order for the rest of the country to see the damage done by regressive thinking.

How do you fix California?
pretty simple in theory,
1) as you stated, open up their resources
2) build nuclear power plants
3) stop catering to the illegals and start deporting them as soon as they are found.

Im pretty sure that none of the three mentioned will happen.

California has become a liberal wasteland and must fail as an example to the rest of the country.

This is NOT a 'we' problem. This is a 'them' problem. Frankly, I do not give a rats ass how they deal with it just as long as THEY deal with it. I'm not interested in helping someone who has a billion dollars a day in their piggy bank.

Problem is that THEY dont look at it like its their problem.
From speaking with My sister-in-law the last time I saw them, (almost a year ago) it seems that those living in California have this idea that the problem has to be solved by an influx of federal dollars.
Of course, since I expressed my thoughts that California got there on its own, and needs to fix it on their own, I was not well accepted for my stand on this issue.. come to think of it, Mr and Mrs. liberal have not spoke to me since then. Seems Im an uncaring SOB because I would rather keep my money in my pocket vs sending it to California to pay for their mistakes.

go figure.

That makes them an awful lot like the rest of America, don't it?

I was waiting for BCP's point come up

Socialists always believe, if the Gobberment could just do more

aka we can just spend more Federal Money to help it will solve all ills .... Humanity is the problem, Gobberment is the answer ...

I am reminded of an old Political Cartoon that shows FDR "Priming the Pump" as dollar signs flutter everywhere ...

Recovery was pursued through "pump-priming" (that is, federal spending).

this was from 03:

Quote:
Robbing Peter to “Prime the Pump”
by Scott McPherson January 16, 2003

If Franklin Roosevelt were alive today, he’d want to shake the hand of California governor Gray Davis. Why? The good governor dreams of an economic recovery plan that FDR, the old socialist himself, would easily identify as a page out of his own failed Keynesian dream.

In a January 7 Associated Press report in the Washington Times (“Davis plans on priming pump with new jobs”), we read, “Gov. Gray Davis is proposing a far-reaching plan to create 500,000 new jobs and help the state’s ailing economy.... Mr. Davis, who faces a $34.8 billion state deficit, plans to focus on economic initiatives” during his new term in office by “calling for worker-training programs, additional money from the federal government ... and acceleration of bond-funded state projects to create new jobs.”

Funny what you turn up in a search for an old Cartoon ... (cannot find the Cartoon)

Quote:
Chuck Schumer gives a lesson in economics
By Lonely Conservative

Charles ‘Chuck You’ Schumer paid a visit to Syracuse today to tell us how he and his pals are going to create lots of jobs for the people of Central New York. Sort of like Hillary Clinton’s promise to bring 250,000 new jobs to Upstate New York. We’re still waiting.

“Infrastructure jobs are generally good paying jobs like these here at C&S. And when people are hired here, they then go to the local stores, to the local supermarkets, to the local restaurants and inject money into the economy,” Schumer said.

But beyond jobs at places like C & S, Schumer says the plan will benefit the entire region. Read full story.

He went on to say we can’t do nothing like Hoover, that we need to prime the pump. Has he turned on the TV lately or picked up a newspaper? Shouldn’t a US Senator know what the US Treasury is up to? Prime the pump?!? The pump’s running full force and the well’s running dry. That’s okay according to Schumer, we’ll worry about how to pay for it all later.

In true FDR fashion, the Democrats plan to spend their way out of this problem. These politicians think they, and only they, know how to create jobs. FDR thought the same thing, and FDR made things worse.

Are we going to see history repeat itself?
