More Afghanistan...

...comments;

One side is saying "What's the rush to ad more troops? We need to think this over! We've seen what happens when we rush in!"

To which I say there is no rush, there is no need. It is long past time to leave. Bush did NOT rush into Iraq. He took office in January of '01. Regardless of what you believe his true motivation, we did NOT go until March '03. That's over two years in office and 18 months post 9/11. So much for rushing.

If we rushed into Afghanistan, it was certainly not with some sort of overwhelming force on the ground that would be difficult to un-commit or reduce or just leave. 50 some odd US troopers were at Tora Bora when we had OBL cornered. We've been 'giving it some thought' about Afghanistan for over 8 years now. So much for rushing, V 2.0.

On top of that, the Pentagon and CIA didn't suddenly just find out about the existence of these two little jewels of the world after 2001. There is no more thinking needed on either one. We're either staying or not. If we're staying, may as well try to win, whatever that means. If we're leaving, home for Christmas sounds good. Time to stat packing. Today.

Obama himself has been talking about Afghanistan for over two years. The thinking is over. Either we're staying or we're not.

Make up your mind, Mr. President and do it quickly before you change it again.

Sh!t or get off the pot time.

It's time we changed the Rules of Engagement and put in enough troops to have a real war. To win that war. Stop trying to make friends and influence people. Wars arent won that way. We no longer have trouble with Japan and Germany and we didnt try to make friends with them, we kicked the crap out of them. We have been trying to make friends with these people for years and they hate us.

Bomb the bejesus out of their poppy fields, starve them out, anybody that sends them help is part of the war. Yes. That means Iran.

If we arent ready for war ,then I agree with Larry, Let's get out. Staying there as targets aint cuttin" it. Our son's and daughters dying in foreign lands and getting nothing done is crazy.

Obama has asked the greatest military mind in history (Joe Biden) what to do, he has met with our most crooked leaders (Pelosi & Reid) and they have advised him, he has probably even asked his buddy Bill Ayres, now it's time boy. Make the decision, you cannot keep voting "present" in the big office.

It is JUST that simple. If Bush wouldn't do it, do you hold out any hope that Obama will?

Me neither. No way in hell. He'll cut taxes and spending first.

So, I say get out, home by Christmas.

Larry I agree with you. If we aren't going to do it right then we need to get out.

The problem needs to be dealt with i was reading a few articles about it today, and the sad truth is Western society we lose the stomach for war quickly.

Shame on the government for thinking it was going to be easy. Didn't we learn anything from the Russians about fighting in Afghanistan??

This link I posted talks about some of the contractors paying money to the Taliban to get convoy's through. He is a quote.

Quote:
If you want to get through the mountain passes, you fight or you pay." Like most contractors interviewed for this article, he preferred to remain anonymous because the U.S. and NATO have understandably strict rules about paying bribes to the Taliban since that cash can, in turn, be used to buy more arms for fighting U.S. and NATO forces. NATO observes a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy on such payments. "We know that sometimes the contractors pay bribes to get the trucks through," says one NATO officer, "but they're not required to tell us that."

We never had a stomach for war. If there is the belief we're getting on with it, fine. Hell, WWII there was fatigue with the war and it was less than four years. However, we were getting on with it.

This was not news in March of 2003.

If we stay

Then we better have other countries in this with us....no more go-it-alone foreign policy decisions. One country that comes to mind is Germany...they have the resources. It ain't the US against the bad guys---it's all of us against the bad guys.

When the talking heads are on TV, you never hear about "the alliance" ---it's only "the U.S."

What in the wide, wide world of sports makes you think ANYONE is interested in Afghanistan? Especially now?

This was a stupid idea when the Brits failed at it. It hadn't gotten any better when the Soviets failed at it. Nothing has made it a better idea now.

Unless I am missing something, here?

So, we should not look out for our best interests because others may not be looking out for theirs?

That seems kind of stupid to me.

Obama has had the Republicans and the Democrats in the White House to get their opinions.

First time he has ever asked Republicans for an opinion. Is it a bi-partisan move?

No , No, and hell No.

His only reason for this is to spread the blame, to be able to say, A bi-partisan meeting told me to do it. This guy hasnt a clue to running a war, but he sure knows how to cover his yellow stripe down his back.

Obama being the military clueless ass that he is, is in damage control mode trying to act like a Commander-In-Chief after being called out for once again failing to lead by the media and America. He needs the approval to feed his Narcissism.
