Mostly through U.S. Treasuries and agency securities.

A great deal of actual U.S. currency is also held abroad, though I'm not sure how much is held by sovereign as opposed to private entities.

China Hints at Yuan's Departure From Dollar Peg

Quote:
China sent its clearest signal yet that it was ready to allow yuan appreciation after an 18-month hiatus, saying on Wednesday it would consider major currencies, not just the dollar, in guiding the exchange rate.

In its third-quarter monetary policy report, the People's Bank of China departed from well-worn language on keeping the yuan "basically stable at a reasonable and balanced level." It hinted instead at a shift from an effective dollar peg that has been in place since the middle of last year.

"Following the principles of initiative, controllability and gradualism, with reference to international capital flows and changes in major currencies, we will improve the yuan exchange rate formation mechanism," the central bank said in a 46-page monetary policy report.
Treasurer Geithner 'Deeply' Believes in Need for Strong Dollar

Quote:
U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said on Wednesday he believes strongly in the need to maintain a strong dollar and said the United States was determined to get its budget deficit down.

"I believe deeply that it's very important to the United States, to the economic health of the United States, that we maintain a strong dollar," Geithner said in a meeting with Japanese reporters at the U.S. embassy.
Is this guy f'in serious? Does he expect anyone to take what he says seriously, knowing that he can force these words out of his mouth? I suppose Japanese are too polite, or perhaps too reserved, to have bust out laughing in unison when he said this.

It's kinda akin to an ####### husband taking a break from slapping his wife around to tell everyone how much he abhors violence. Chutzpa I tell ya, chutzpa.

Glenn Beck is starting to get on my nerves. I love his messages, but he really needs to clam down.

One might even say how stable is Glenn Beck.

Much of his act is for dramatic effect, his message is good, but he is a little too enthusiastic in his performance.
