Yep.

They still do.

With a few clicks of your mouse, you can look up the authors. Here's the list of books for SMCPS...

Textbooks | Curriculum and Instruction @ smcps.org

Do you have kids in school? How involved are you in the school? I read through my kid's books and I know their teachers and they know me so I know what's being taught to my kids. I don't count on talking heads to tell me what's going on in the schools.

Also, the public reviews any books before they're adopted by the SMCPS.

I have a 15 yr old in CCPS (I have not control over where she goes to school ) ... and since i live in PG my youngest would be in PGCPC ... but I am going to send her to private schools

b4 my 15 yr old move south to Charles County with her mother, she was getting c' and d's and generally doing poorly ... maybe because she was on of the few white girls ... or the teachers just suck

with in 3 weeks of moving to CCPS her grades were way up and she came home one evening, commenting to her mother how much better her new school was, the teachers actually teach !!!!

I am gald to hear your daughter's situation has improved. I've had problems from time to time with what's been going on with my kids in school but I've been lucky in that I've been able to get the issues worked out with the teachers with good results. I wouldn't regard the PGCPS as typical. That system is well know for having lots of problems.

When we moved to Maryland 20 years ago, we talked to the vice principal at one of the P.G. Co. schools. She told us then that she lived in Ann Arundel Co because of the schols and that we (being white like her) should never place our children in P.G. Co. schools. We didn't.

Wow .................

when I was in Elementary School (3rd-6th) in the 70's there was 1 black kid in my class and I am not sure where he lived in River Ridge [most of us lived around the school ..... ]

.....by the time I graduated from Oxon Hill HS in 1984 it was a 50 / 50 mix

and did not seem too different when my son went there in 1998 / 99
