Here's a breakdown of my theory about this. Pardon the cynicism.........

Young adults tend to be more idealistic than their older counterparts. Afterall, they haven't been kicked in the face by life enough yet.....lol.

Barack Obama campaigned on the idealistic notion that Americans can actually come together politically, and get things done. We know that's not true, of course. The Democrats/Liberals complained about the Bush years, and now Republicans/Conservatives are complaining about the Obama years. On and on it goes.......with people pissed at each other, and no resolution in sight.

The "because he is black" argument appears to be invalid. There have been many prominent black figures, with "cool" reputations. How many of them have even come close to the presidency? His success (and appeal) have had more to do with timing, if anything.

None that I am aware of; which is my point. When was the last time you saw the youth of America clamoring for some cool, young, and prominent black man to run for president? I don't recall this ever happening before, despite the fact that there were many cool, young, and prominent black professionals before Barack Obama.

We can agree to disagree. I personally believe that Obama being black in addition to being articulate, slick, cool and young had a great deal to do with him being a preference. It was a novelty.

The term "professional", is not restricted to the arena of "entertainment"; though I personally have never found P-Diddy to be entertaining........ If you are ever curious about seeing a non-stereotypical media portrayal of black Americans, pick up a copy of Black Enterprise. You'll find many prominent, industrious, and innovative "professionals"; who are considered "cool" in certain circles.

Agreeing to disagree is certainly understandable. However I must admit that it is truly disheartening to even slightly indulge the notion that an articulate, cool, and young black man - remains a novelty to some people.

Yes, but the first "one" of anything usually is. Especially when this one is not rapping about his biatches or catching a pass.
