Ax me why it's like that

Actually I know many cool articulate young black men, and black women for that matter..allll around me at work. Men and women that i consider quite cool. In this area we are lucky to have a wonderful influx of educated people..of all races. Problem is, they don't have any intention of running for president (that I know of). I believe the novelty lies in the fact that he is a politician, not only that he is young, black, articulate, and cool.

I only run into thuggy people when I am in walmart or the park..and then..believe me they are of both races.

Its a shame people around here should no better than to think that an articulate black man is a novelty..I see them everyday.

I already know the answer, but your eager willingness to "help" is much appreciated.

For those that don't know the answer however; some people are just too mentally lazy to move beyond some tired preconceived notions about entire groups of people.

Thanks for sharing your personal experience. I'm not sure why the talented people you referred to, haven't considered the possibility of running for the White House. Maybe they will give it a second thought now? This country needs as many capable people as possible to step up and contribute.

I guess I'm relatively young. Should I have to pay as much?

I don't buy the argument though. Young people didn't come out in droves in this election just like in years past. The Democrats ran on change. What change, people could not know. The Republicans base just wasn't that interested in even a middle-of-the-road candidate in McCain. They're paying for that now. I hope they learn their lesson.

Unfortunately the people profiled in Black Enterprise don't run. In my memory the only 2 black men to run were Jesse Jackson and Alan Keyes. Neither made it past super Tuesday in the primaries and both were flawed. Keyes less so than Jackson but unarguably not electable.

Along comes Barack Obama. Cool, articulate, given rockstar like coverage by the media, major party support, and he is black. It was a perfect storm.

I agree completely, my point is I believe there was an entire cross section of society that voted with the "idea" of our first black president regardless of his intent or proposed policies. Call it white guilt, call it a novelty, the result is still the same.

How else do you explain Obama telling up front what he is going to do, being elected only to find out the majority do not want what he is doing when he said exactly what that was before he was elected?

I am going to create health care reform and put in a public option!

The majority don't want public option.

I am going to close Gitmo.

Don't turn them lose and don't bring them here!

The list goes on.

You can bet your skinny ass the 18-29 group went overwhelmingly Obama. Maybe not you but every vote in every group counts.

You can't just say that group.

Almost every age group went overwhelmingly to Obama. The only exception 60+.

Exit Polls - Election Results 2008 - The New York Times

12% swing 18-29

6% swing 30-44

1% swing 45-59

1% swing 60+

We all know young voters don't come out in swarms as the older do. It is because of that the the lower swing numbers have more significance than they lead on.

Now look further down the page and you'll see the story isn't about age.

Liberals voted 89% for their guy while conservatives only voted 78%. Moderates voted 60% for Obama, which helped turn the tides further. The Republicans didn't even have a chance even without the moderates because their foundation wasn't strong.
