The Race Card, Football and Me

Quote:
My critics would have you believe no conservative meets NFL 'standards.'

David Checketts, an investor and owner of sports teams, approached me in late May about investing in the St. Louis Rams football franchise. As a football fan, I was intrigued. I invited him to my home where we discussed it further. Even after informing him that some people might try to make an issue of my participation, Mr. Checketts said he didn't much care. I accepted his offer.

It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Shortly thereafter, the media elicited comments from the likes of Al Sharpton. In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case. He also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews "diamond merchants") and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot.

Using the race card to intimidate folks is flat out wrong. And Rush is right in saying that.

Remember the mindset of the people who use the race card the most. Just as with the public assistance cow, they're going to milk that sucker for all it's worth...until that cow drops dead. Then they'll riot because...well, because that's what they do. They want what they want, and (in the immortal words of Maobama's pastor) "gawd damn America!"

The card may be a bit overused and tattered, but it has by no means expired.

Only the stigma of being called a racist is beginning to lose it's edge as we realise that racism is no longer a one way street.

Bull####. Obama and his crew have turned it into an open joke.

This was inevitable, enough high profile people have to eat a #### sammitch at the alter of PC and, viola, crying wolf no longer has any meaning. Imus, Obama the Community Cop, Holder calling us all cowards and now, Limbaugh being, somehow, worse than the collection of #### ups and felons the NFL happily calls employees while they, the players, call the boss man "Owner".

It's over. People who flat out don't like black people are fine. Hell, John Thompson was on the radio the other day saying he is ALL FOR Limbaugh being owner because, at least, he figures he knows where he stands with Rush because Rush speaks his mind. I don't know if that means Thompson thinks Rush a racist or even if Rush is. The point is, the ONLY people who actually care about it are white guilt liberals and those who profit from it, race hustlers.

Blacks have long been mystified at whites twisting themselves in knots over what is simply a bias. As long as it doesn't cost them a job or violates their civil rights, they never gave a #### what anyone thought of their skin color. They're pretty comfortable in it and know people are, naturally, going to have differences.

Duh.

Obama may have not done much else good but, he has turned the race card into a Joker; it only means something if you think it does.

Well I'm a third generation Hispanic man who is proud to be an American and I personally will shove a race card up someones ass who tries to play it. What I hate are generations of blacks who have never been enslaved thinking they are owed something by generations of other cultures who never enslaved them. If blacks want to get back to the real roots of slavery, maybe they should sue Africans, slavery started among black tribes when stronger ones enslaved weaker ones and were in the business of rounding them up and bringing them to markets to sell to the Westerners.

Spain brought the first blacks to the US and Caribbean, go have a talk with them. Blacks have the exact same rights and freedoms every American has today, many fail because hard work, ethics, personal responsibility is just too hard when you can sit back, get fat, collect a check, and play the victim.

Why is it in mixed neighborhoods or predominantly white, Italian, Chinese, Irish, etc. etc. they are called communities. But when you look at ghettos, run down and dilapidated at the very hands of the people who live there the term is segregation. Bullsh*t!!!

The Race Card is dead! Thank you Obama!!!

I know what you mean. I'm tired of being labeled a racist, simply because I hate illegal hispanics. Why is it in mixed neighborhoods or predominantly white, Italian, Chinese, Irish, etc. etc. they are called communities. But when you look at barrios, run down and dilapidated at the very hands of the people who live there the term is xenophobia. Bullsh*t!!!

First paper to run Limbaugh "slavery" quote issues

Quote:
In the wake of the news that radio host Rush Limbaugh was hoping to buy a chunk of the St. Louis Rams, Bryan Burwell of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch wrote a column containing the now-infamous quote, supposedly from Limbaugh, regarding the notion that slavery "had its merits."

We first became aware of the quote not from perusing the copy of the Post-Dispatch that arrives in our mailbox every morning in West Virginia, but because Limbaugh mentioned the issue during the Monday broadcast of his radio show. (Indeed, if Limbaugh had never talked about the quotes on his radio show, we and likely many others would have never even known about the issue.)

When posting on the matter on Monday, we made it clear that Limbaugh contends he never said the words. (The next day, he supplied a more forceful denial; the practical effect was that even more people became aware of the allegedly false quotes.)

But now the toothpaste is being squeezed back into the tube by the Post-Dispatch. In an Editor's Note published today, the newspaper says that the quote in question "cannot be verified, and its use did not meet the Post-Dispatch's standards for sourcing."

The Post-Dispatch also points out that the source of the quote was Jack Huberman's 2006 book, 101 People Who Are Really Screwing America. "The book provided no details about the origin of the quote," the Editor's Note explains. "When contacted by the Post-Dispatch, Huberman said that he had a source for the quote but declined to reveal it on advice of counsel. The book's publisher, Nation Books, did not return calls to the Post-Dispatch."

(Huberman's response suggests pretty strongly to us that he never actually heard Limbaugh say the words on the air, or in any other setting.)

Trying to squeeze the toothpaste back into the tube, after the damage has been done.

you forget the best parts:

Quote:
It didn't take long before my name was selectively leaked to the media as part of the Checketts investment group. Shortly thereafter, the media elicited comments from the likes of Al Sharpton. In 1998 Mr. Sharpton was found guilty of defamation and ordered to pay $65,000 for falsely accusing a New York prosecutor of rape in the 1987 Tawana Brawley case. He also played a leading role in the 1991 Crown Heights riot (he called neighborhood Jews "diamond merchants") and 1995 Freddie's Fashion Mart riot.

Not to be outdone, Jesse Jackson, whose history includes anti-Semitic speech (in 1984 he referred to Jews as "Hymies" and to New York City as "Hymietown" in a Washington Post interview) chimed in.

and the summation:

Quote:
As I explained on my radio show, this spectacle is bigger than I am on several levels. There is a contempt in the news business, including the sportswriter community, for conservatives that reflects the blind hatred espoused by Messrs. Sharpton and Jackson. "Racism" is too often their sledgehammer. And it is being used to try to keep citizens who don't share the left's agenda from participating in the full array of opportunities this nation otherwise affords each of us. It was on display many years ago in an effort to smear Clarence Thomas with racist stereotypes and keep him off the Supreme Court. More recently, it was employed against patriotic citizens who attended town-hall meetings and tea-party protests.

These intimidation tactics are working and spreading, and they are a cancer on our society.

Mr. Limbaugh is a nationally syndicated talk radio host.
