Fox News isn't just bad. It's un-American.

Quote:
Last week, when White House Communications Director Anita Dunn charged the Fox News Channel with right-wing bias, Fox responded the way it always does. It denied the accusation with a straight face while proceeding to confirm it with its coverage.

Consider Fox's Web story on the episode. It quotes five people. Two of them work for Fox. All of them assert that administration officials are either wrong in substance or politically foolish to criticize the network. No one is cited supporting Dunn's criticisms or saying that it could make sense for Obama to challenge the network's power. It's a textbook example of a biased journalism.

What's most distinctive about the American press is not its freedom but its century-old tradition of independence—that it serves the public interest rather than those of parties, persuasions, or pressure groups. Media independence is a 20th-century innovation that has never fully taken root in many other countries that do have a free press.
Why Fox News Is Un-American | Newsweek Newsweek Voices - Jacob Weisberg | Newsweek.com

Weisberg thinks the media has been serving the public interest with their incessant cheerleading for the Messiah? And as Fox won't join in the establishment media's adulation of the WON, Weisberg states they should be ignored.

Blaming Fox for the establishment media's radical left wing slant is pure bullchiat. Fox made us do it!

SamSpade was the first person I heard say this:

Conservatives think Liberals have bad ideas.

Liberals think Conservatives are bad people.

Someone really oughta bring that up the next time they are being asked why they hate children or puppies or cripples.

It's pretty interesting watching the White House get all spun up over a news network that doesn't suck their ass. Bush and Cheney got raked over the coals by every network, including Fox, and you didn't see their people out there trying to shut them down.

If anyone is unAmerican, it's Obama and his media stooges.

I disagree with you here. Bush, Cheney and the administration did make remarks about the networks coverage and accused them of bias also. Given the slants on the networks, it wasn't hard to figure out who they were referring to. Obama's administration doing the same isn't anything new. What is unprecedented though, is that he is actually calling the network out by name. It seems Bush Sr. also called two journalists out on the carpet "by name" for their liberal slant the other day too.

We can all put our pious little hats on and cry at the end of the day about how attacking the news media is unconstitutional. But, all of us know who slants where. Fox News slants to the right and has been getting worse as time goes on.

Calling them on the carpet and shutting them down are two very different animals.

Hopefully, the latest calls by our leaders calling the networks out on the carpet will be a wake up call. But I wouldn't hold my breath.

Legitimate news media in the U.S. is dead.

Maybe you perceive them as getting worse because the current admin is so F'd up that there is a lot more political injustice going on for them to report on.

Not a sermon, just a thought.

No, I don't perceive it to be worse because of the current administration. I don't think it has anything to with the administration that is in office. The last administration was just as F'd up and they were getting worse then too. It has to do with the media itself.
