That's right, and those aren't the only ones that could be fairly stated or restated. The truth is, there aren't that many people who truly believe in the ideal of freedom anymore - most people just believe in specific freedoms which they have some investment in for one reason or another.

To the extent that they aren't in power, they bemoan their freedoms being compromised. To the extent that they are in power, they are more than willing to compromise the freedoms of others (whether for despotic reasons, or insecure ones) - and they are willing to abandon their internal intellectual honesty in order to believe that what they are doing is somehow fundamentally different.
