| Some interesting facts. Here are some interesting facts: In 1965 – when Congress created Medicare/Medicaid and greatly expanded the federal government's role in health care – about 13% of Americans were obese. Today, 32% of Americans are obese. Before the government enacted Social Security, Americans typically saved between 15% and 20% of their incomes. Today? Almost nothing. In fact, for many years, the savings rate in America was actually negative. Before the Great Depression, there wasn't any government unemployment insurance. Not surprisingly, there was almost zero long-term unemployment. One more interesting fact… the U.S. didn't experience a Great Depression until the Federal Reserve was created. The main purpose of the Federal Reserve is to ensure that banks don't fail. Sounds good. But it provides a perverse incentive for banks to act recklessly, which causes bigger booms and busts – just like the one we're experiencing right now.

| It's more like "what is he implying".... What I get out of it is that if the government would butt out, folks wouldn't be so lazy and stupid. |

| Medicare and Medicaid at the root of Obesity? I can see the link with rising healthcare costs, and each successive legislation about healthcare showing a reactionary rise shortly after and it kept growing. I think you need to tigh obesity to the growing number of cars owned by the average American Family. The number of manual labor jobs going overseas to be replaced by office jobs. The numbers of mothers that left the home and entered the work force. The recent phenomenon of the hysteria about childhood kidnappings and parents locking their kids up in the house, the new wave child rearing philosphy that spoil and indulge children and the rise of the number of video game consoles and computers per the average american family. The obesity problem is simple, average Americans having every greater conveinence combined with ever increasing sedintary lifestyle with ever decreasing quality in diet. Lawyers and Obsity, the negative side effect of our prosperity. |

Agree with the other points, except the obesity I pointed out and the Federal Reserve, hmmmm, NOT sure on that, some aspect yes, he has a point. I think other aspects no, it would probably be worse without a Fed. BUT, I'd agree there are factors government interfers that help mess with the economy and often big time. | |
