| The Republican's War On The Middle Class Link to original article. "History will record that on September 19, 2011, the Republicans made a huge political miscalculation -- a miscalculation that could potentially doom their chances for victory next year. If I were a Republican, the last thing I'd want to talk about is "class warfare." For 30 years -- whenever they have been in power -- Republicans and their Wall Street/CEO allies have conducted a sustained, effective war on the American middle class. Much of the success of their war has resulted from their insistence that it didn't exist. They have talked instead about how the economy needs to reward all those "job creators" whose beneficence will rain down economic prosperity on the rest of us. They fund right-wing organizations that divert our attention by whipping up worry that gay marriage will somehow undermine heterosexual relationships. They start wars that help pad the bottom lines of defense contractors but do nothing to make us safer. And all the while they quietly rig the economic game so that all of the growth in the Gross Domestic Product goes into the hands of the top two percent of the population -- while they cut our pay, destroy our unions and do their level best to cut our Social Security and Medicare. There has been a "class war" all right -- a war on the middle class. And the middle class has been on the losing end." |

| FACT CHECK: Are rich taxed less than secretaries? - Yahoo! News WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama makes it sound as if there are millionaires all over America paying taxes at lower rates than their secretaries. "Middle-class families shouldn't pay higher taxes than millionaires and billionaires," Obama said Monday. "That's pretty straightforward. It's hard to argue against that." The data tell a different story. On average, the wealthiest people in America pay a lot more taxes than the middle class or the poor, according to private and government data. They pay at a higher rate, and as a group, they contribute a much larger share of the overall taxes collected by the federal government.

| WAR on the middle class. Glad to see the left is still in line with Obama's demand for a more civil tone. Right on queue. The liberal playbook to a tee. Obama makes speech, liberals accuse Republicans of wanting to starve the poor, our children, the elderly. No, Republicans want them to die. So predictable. Liberals can't defend their ideas on their own merits; instead they go on the assault with baseless nonsense.
