| I’m telling you, they won and they are going to shove it in your face every chance they get. They can make all the incendiary comment under the sun and it wont matter. They have nothing to lose. Obama has been running around using the ‘hostage’ word with the ‘fiscal cliff’ deal. There is more to come and they will pull no punches in vilifying the GOP. The president called for more civility? ![]()

| The Obama aide's comment was "very smart"; because even though it is not true, the 47% will believe it because a Dem said it. Abe Lincoln was a Repub; the Dems started the KKK; but, the Obama admin rewrites history as it suits them. JMO. I always find it interesting trivia that Martin Luther King was a Republican, and Sen. R. Byrd (D) W. VA (longest serving) was a member of the KKK.

| There still is slavery today. Income taxes and prison labor are two examples.

| Yup. Slavery happens anytime you are deprived fully or partially of the fruits of your labor. It matters not that a jail sentence is being served; it is no less slavery.

You can play with the definition of slavery, and in some ways prison life may be somewhat analogous to slavery, but when the average person talks about slavery they are not talking about being in prison. | |

One may say they are OK with this form of slavery because they are being punished. I do not agree but I will not argue. That is your right. But to say it is not slavery is to play mental gymnastics.

Chattel: an item of tangible movable or immovable property except real estate and things (as buildings) connected with real property Those who are serving time in prison are not ‘chattel’. Slaves are held against their will, and are owned by someone. Those who commit crimes are NOT held against their will; they have committed a crime that they knew had consequences. Slaves are not paying the price for doing something other than being born in the wrong circumstances. Convicts are paying a price for crimes against society. With criminals there is a payoff, a monetary exchange for breaking the law. That is not slavery.
