They aren't done with anything, and if it was a d majority you wouldn't be making excuses for them.

McConnell tried to get a vote on Obama’s proposal to the senate and Reid blocked it. As with every budget Obama has provided to congress (how many is it now? 3? 4?), he still can’t get a single democrat to vote for it. The house passed a budget and the senate balked at that. The senate has been an ineffective, inept body of misfits that needs some branding irons up their anal regions to get some real work done. Then low and behold they did. Popcorn. Are you freaking kidding me?

This particular thread is about the senate. They now have proven they can actually accomplish something, where they haven’t in the previous 3+ years. The stupidity that they had to stop everything to have a vote on whether popcorn is allowed on the Capital Complex should have everyone scratching their heads as to where their damn priorities are. These guys are paid way too much to for this sort of nonsense, and we have to stop making excuses for them by voting them back in. ALL OF THEM: D and R alike.
Yet they are still at work while the house is taking a vacation.

However, if you are actually putting the blame on the house and the senate equally I will agree with you. They should have figured out a compromise last year.

You need to use fewer words when explaining things to him. He gets lost after the first couple of sentences and starts spouting stupid, like bringing up the house in a tread about the senate.
meh, that added a lot to the discussion

Lets just keep ignoring the idiocy when it comes from people with Rs behind their names

They were in town when their proposal was summarily shot down with no counter-proposal offered. No need to be a hangin' around after that..what with Christmas shopping to do.

Besides...I'm perfectly fine with the cliff, just as it is. Let all of the many tax increases kick in (wait'll you see what that does to the existence of the family farm, for example) and let every one of the sequestration cuts bite. Let it rock.

At least we know where their priorities are

That is one of the more stupid ideas even you have had. Listen to Ann coulter, raising taxes for all on the principle of protecting the very rich is not winning.

The house is on vacation? I didn’t know this. Because as of the 4th the house offered a plan that Obama rejected:

House GOP offers plan to avoid fiscal cliff, but White House says no - CNN.com
Quote:
House Republicans offered their own proposal Monday in the heated battle to avert the so-called fiscal cliff, but it was quickly rebuffed by President Barack Obama's administration for not demanding more from the nation's wealthiest taxpayers.

The GOP plan promises $2.2 trillion in deficit savings over the next decade, including $800 billion from tax reform, $600 billion from Medicare reforms and other health savings and $600 billion in other spending cuts, House Republican leadership aides said. It also pledges $200 billion in savings by revising the consumer price index, a measure of inflation.
The GOP is conceding on some tax increases while asking for some cuts in entitlements. Obama is not budging. Rather than compromise Obama decided to change things up:

McConnell: Obama plan made me ‘burst into laughter’
Quote:
He wasn’t trying to be rude, McConnell explained to the Weekly Standard; it was just his natural reaction to a deal that contained $1.6 trillion in new taxes, $50 billion in new stimulus spending, and an effective end to congressional control over the debt ceiling. According to Republicans, the plan would purportedly trim the debt by about $4 trillion over the next decade.

The offer lacks any concessions to Republicans, most notably on the core issue of where to set tax rates for the wealthiest Americans, and was quickly rejected by House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).
Obama makes fresh demands on ‘fiscal cliff’ - The Washington Post
Quote:
The offer lacks any concessions to Republicans, most notably on the core issue of where to set tax rates for the wealthiest Americans. After two weeks of talks between the White House and aides to House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio), it seemed to take Republicans by surprise.
It’s important to note that of that $1.6 trillion in tax increases, only $1 trillion will come from raising taxes on the so-called ‘wealthy’. So, it remains to be understood where the other $.6 trillion will come from. This ‘new offer’ by Obama/Geithner skews from Obama’s original offers since it adds in unaccountable increases in taxes, more stimulus spending, and an attempt to remove power from congress decided on increasing the debt ceiling. This is effectively known as moving the goal post and isn’t even remotely considered to be a compromise.

In the end of all of this, none of the proposals by democrats or republicans are anything close to being serious about solving the spending and tax problems that not only prevent this ‘cliff’ but provides a long-term solution to getting this government back on a fiscally responsible track.

But, by cracky, we have popcorn.

And I want you to note not one Foxnews source.

Anne who? I was paying more attention to the community organizer...he's the one looking for 1.2-1.6 trillion in additional tax revenues. That has to mean taxing anything and everything more. Let's get er done and see what happens! It's working really well in other countries that are trying it..like the UK and France.

sucking the successful dry just to pay off the terminally lazy is not winning either.

besides, since raising the tax on the rich is not going to dent the damage that the socialists have caused, it can be only assumed that the entire raise the tax on the rich thing is out of spite because they have money and you dont.

Its time for the socialists (liberals) to stop acting like a bunch of entitled children and start taking responsibility for their failure in life. Its not the riches responsibility to make sure you have everything you want.
