No more Jared Lee Loughners

No more Jared Lee Loughners - NY Daily News

A year ago today, in Tucson, Az., Rep. Gabby Giffords’ open-air meeting with her constituents was brutally ended when Jared Lee Loughner fired into the crowd with two large-capacity ammunition magazines. Getting off some 30 shots in 15 seconds, he killed six and near-fatally wounded Giffords herself.

A civilian’s ability to carry so much firepower had been previously banned but Congress, in its wisdom, saw fit in 2004 to lift the ban on large magazines, such as the one Loughner used in his carnage.

And this was to be but the first in a series of shocking shootings in 2011. Nine months later, also armed with excessive firepower, Eduardo Sension went on a rampage at a Carson City, Nev., IHOP, where he shot at civilians and five uniformed National Guardsmen, killing four and wounding five. Unimaginably, Virginia Tech experienced déjà vu when a police officer was shot point blank and killed on campus. Just three weeks ago, here in New York City, we lost one of our Finest, Police Officer Peter Figoski, when he was killed in the line of duty while investigating a robbery. And this is just an abbreviated year-end list of bloodshed. Gun violence continues to plague America

And during the ban the Columbine massacre happened. The perps used a TEC-9; a semi-automatic weapon with a 52, a 32, and a 28 round magazine. They also used a Hi-Point 995 Carbine with thirteen 10-round magazines.

Oh, and there were 99 bombs placed around the school. Bombs are illegal.

And during that ban the DC sniper (John Allen Muhammad) used a Bushmaster.

Also during the ban there was the Wakefield, MA massacre in which the shooter (Michael McDermott) used an AK-47.

What, exactly, is your case? Because this opinion article is about as useful as a screen door in a submarine, and judging by the comments, the readers feel the same.

You seem to leave that out of your ramblings.

I'm still waiting on your response to your other thread.

So, these events happened when there was an assault weapons ban in place along with resticted sales on magazine capacity and yet these bans didn't stop any of it from happening?

So that's the case you're making; that bans don't work? GREAT! Welcome to our side.

But wait... if they work then how did Columbine happen? What about the DC sniper? How'd he get a Bushmaster if bans on assault rifles work? How did those bans during that time help at all? I can guarantee you there are a lot of family members of dead victims out there that will disagree that those bans worked or even helped.
