| House Republican leaders on Friday announced a plan to condition a three-month increase in the debt limit on the Senate committing to pass a budget by the April 15 statutory deadline. “Before there is any long-term debt limit increase, a budget should be passed that cuts spending,” Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told the Republican conference in remarks to close the party’s three-day retreat in Williamsburg. “The Democratic-controlled Senate has failed to pass a budget for four years. That is a shameful run that needs to end, this year.” The House will also seek to prevent members of Congress from being paid if the two chambers do not pass a budget resolution. “We are going to pursue strategies that will obligate the Senate to finally join the House in confronting the government’s spending problem,” Boehner said. “The principle is simple: no budget, no pay.” Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said the House would vote next week on a three-month extension of borrowing authority. “If the Senate or House fails to pass a budget in that time, members of Congress will not be paid by the American people for failing to do their job. No budget, no pay,” Cantor said. House GOP to vote next week on three-month increase to debt limit - The Hill

| Doesn't the Senate have to approve it? Yeah, fat chance.

A 3 month extension accomplishes what other than kicking the can down the road...again. They won't pay themselves if they don't pass a budget resolution? The sequester was supposed to be so terrible of a concept that there was no way these morons (Rs and Ds) wouldn't come to a compromise. They had almost 18 months to come up with a solution. They didn't...hell they didn't even try. So what did they do when the sequester's January 1st rolled around...pushed the sequester further out. So now here we are with another idiotic debt ceiling debate looming...what do your saintly Republicans come up with? Kick the can down the road another three months and threaten not to pay themselves! That will certainly draw your attention away from the fact that there are still no proposals on the table.. Any you believe that the really will follow thru this time?? When 11:59pm on April 14th rolls around what do you think they are going to do? They will pass a CR, claim it is a budget resolution or give themselves another extention in order not to come up with an agreement...and of course reward themselves for trying so hard and releasing their paychecks. This is theater...not substance. Taxes must go up...entitlements must be reformed...until we as a nation face this reality and stop acting like Solyndra or food stamps are the root cause of the deficit...all we will have is theater. | |

| Specifically, which taxes must go up and to what level? And which entitlements and how would you reform them? You have the proverbial magic wand...what would you do?

Going to be interesting to see how much of a net increase in tax revenue places like California will see after raising taxes so much. ![]() I predict: None.
