I guess selective hearing is to blame.
Even in reporting 'ordinary news' I find Fox reports with a certain tone that leans right; and this only when comparing it to CNN or MSNBC. Just in choosing stories to report you'll find huge differences between Fox and MSNBC.

That's one of the most powerful weapons of the media, the ability NOT to report news.

You know, FOX obliterates the other networks regularly in the ratings - their competitors need to cherry pick data, reporting on which night which one of their shows won the ratings war in a single demographic.

That, or they just dismiss the viewers altogether - or declare that FOX's viewers don't watch the whole hour or so. They HAVE to do this, because - there's no way their preferred news wins the ratings, and it horrifies them.

And I will say it again for the zillionth time - FOX News could be erased tomorrow if their competition would do ONE THING - that they will never do. And that is, be fair to the right wing. At best, they're condescending; at worst of course, they're vulgar and rude beyond all sense of civility. But all they need to do to win is be fair to the right - then, there's no need to watch FOX at all. People on both sides of the political realm watch FOX because it's the ONLY way to get that side of the news. You know, for the same reason I go to certain websites like Snopes, to see if what I am reading is BS - I have to check it out.

FOX on cable, compared to cable, yes? Not compared to the networks? That's what you meant, yes?

Yes, because the big three still rule the roost at night.

And I mention cable because - it's on all day. The big three run mostly non-news all day and night.

Which doesn't make sense because there's a distinct difference between a political commentator like Hannity - who never hides the fact that he is conservative - and say, Megyn Kelly or Shepard Smith, who may or may not be (actually, Smith is liberal, but you wouldn't know that) - because they report news rather than host a political talk show.

Case in point - pick your favorite SPORTS commentator or broadcaster - what's their political point of view? You don't care and probably have no idea - because politics is completely irrelevant in sports. Same with broadcasting the news - unless it's ABOUT politics or a political issue, reporting ought to be unbiased. I was watching an ABC early show the other day and had to just tune out - the panelists simply could not refrain from injecting their personal views into the broadcast.

.
That was my point. But there remain far too many of those who are intellectually stunted enough to not be able to differentiate between a Hannity, O'REilly or Matthews - and what they spew - and the reporting of news. Heck..the OP probably thinks Jon Stewart reports the news.

Most of the twenty-somethings I know get the majority of their news from Comedy Central if not all of it. Several of my nieces pretty much just watch Bill Maher.
