| One Million Moms for Gun Control... And this is how it starts....... One Million Moms For Gun Control rally in Jersey City | NJ.com Moved to action by the Newtown school shooting, civic leaders and gun control advocates said "enough is enough" during a rally this morning in Jersey City and demanded stronger gun-control laws to prevent further gun violence. The hour-long rally began at 11 a.m. at Lincoln Park, near West Side and Belmont Avenues, and was organized by the New Jersey Chapter of the One Million Moms for Gun Control, a nationwide group calling for tougher gun-control legislation. Over a dozen state and local representatives came together and urged the roughly 200 people in attendance to fight for sensible gun laws. Officials who spoke called for gun-control advocates to appeal to both their state and national representatives to ban the sale of assault rifles, close gun sale loopholes, and to ban high capacity gun magazines. "We're all here for sensible federal gun-control," said Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy during opening remarks, adding "This is a a federal plague and it requires a federal response." Among the speakers was former Governor James Florio, Congressman Frank Pallone, Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver, State Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg, Senator Barbara Buono, and Bayonne Mayor Mark Smith. "We're in an epidemic of gun violence in this country," said Florio, who as governor passed a bill in 1990 banning military-style assault weapons. He urged gun advocates to build coalitions to fight gun lobbyists, adding "Do you really think it is in the pubic interest to have AK47s and Uzis." One Million Moms for Gun Control, created hours after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, held similar rallies today across the country including Washington D.C., Chicago, and Boston. Mandi Perlmutter, Co-Leader of the New Jersey chapter of One Million Moms for Gun Control, said gun-control advocates need to speak with their votes as well as their wallets. "We are here as evidence that we are not going to back down," she added The rally concluded with a $20,000 donation to Jersey City's Gun Buyback Program from Sims Metal Management, a metals and electronics recycling company with a facility at Linden Avenue in Jersey City. Members of the Evangelical Pastors Association of Hudson County, New Jersey Urban Mayors Association, Blue Wave of New Jersey, and New Jersey Residents for Action were also in attendance. |

| Hundreds turn out for rally in Jersey City to support of gun control The right wing gun nuts just don't get it,if they would join in and have a say in what happens it might help.It starts out small but a few hundred here or there and the next thing you have is a a movement ! " Mothers, fathers and children came from throughout North Jersey to lend their support. “Well, I think legislation that limits the likelihood that people who assemble in public spaces and enclosed spaces can be gunned down is something that we should all support,” said Cindy Handler of Montclair. “There are way too many guns of every type out there.” Some argue an assault weapons ban would have little effect on gun violence, which is largely due to handguns. But after the Newtown shooting, gun-control advocates have set their sights on high-capacity, semi-automatic weapons. “If we can stop the manufacture, if we can stop the import, eventually people won’t be able to get their hands on them,” O’Brien said. Rallies were held in Boston, Chicago and Washington, D.C., yesterday where thousands of people, many holding signs with names of gun violence victims and messages such as “Ban Assault Weapons Now,” gathered in front of the Capitol. | Helping to disarm American patriots one gun at a time. People should really be careful about what they wish for, and think things through before reacting. If I was a parent that lost a child in a violent attack, my life would be over, so to speak. But, the approach to gun control has gone way off the tracks; and, will leave American citizens even more vulnerable. No matter what laws are passed, criminals/psychos will always, always, always have access to guns. Also, we need to retain our guns in order to have the ability to fight off the welfare recipients, that will go without once their checks stop arriving every month. JMO.

| I personally am all for gun control. Enforce the current laws that already exist and lock up all the criminals who have possession and use guns in the commission of any crime and quit turning the animals back out on the streets. Lets get the legal system to quit this catch and release bull#### and letting criminals go as fast as the police catch them.

| If you like enforcing our existing laws, why do you support abandoning the constitution? |

| Well let's see: 40% - 45% of household have guns. That's 47 - 53 million households. That adds up to 70 - 80 million adults owning guns. 1 million?

| Hmmm, so I spent some time looking at pictures of the various Million Mom Marches for gun control. Oddly enough, the images make very hard to judge attendance, in fact, I would almost say that they photographers went out of their way to visually amplify the attendance. So, Big Blue, you seem pretty excited about the numbers here. Care to find me a pic showing the numbers the article claims? Look close, close up shots from down low, no high shots. The ones that do give an overhead, the depth of field is decpetive, gets fuzzy before the end of the crowd, makes it appear that the crowd (I'm looking at all the bridge shots with the nice officer in front) goes no forever, when I think it's about 30-40 people deep at best.
